Member Dawit did, and decided the output and pattern was better suited in his foglights. Replaced the lowbeam bulbs with HIDs IIRC. SCH-I535 Also, keep in mind that these LEDs don't have a point light source, like a halogen bulb filament, or a bright discharge arc (HID), so the light pattern will be most likely messed up. The reflectors and lenses are designed to focus a point light source, not light coming from two sides of a circuit board. You can see in the auction pictures, that there is a dark space in front of the LED "bulb". There is absolutely no light projecting forward. SCH-I535
yeah was thinking they should have had 3 or 4 LED's to encompass the entire area but never really know till you ask... i know the regular halogen are kind of dim. im looking to increase brightness but do not want to go to HID. my 04 had HID and while they were nice the driver side lamp would shut off periodically and that was no fun. not to mention their price to replace.
H11 to H9 Headlight Bulb Conversion | PriusChat I and several other members have done this mod and are happy with the increased light output over the H11 halogen bulbs. Just use Phillips or Osram bulbs. SCH-I535
I am considering this modifications and purchase can any1 do a follow up on their first hand knowledge with this refit
So no PC chat members have tried the LED cree headlight and have no first hand knowledge and /or experience.... with the Gen 2 replacement
Simple answer is they are not bright enough, you have to do HID if you want an upgrade. People tried them on their Volts as the Volt comes with halogen headlights and they are not bright enough for driving.
thanks was kinda thinking in that direction. I got ebay burn on headlights (different car/vehicle) one time.......and fitment, quality, and night driving concerns...... am I correct you have not actually purchase cree led or tried them
I bought Cree led h11s to use as fogs just for the led look. I have not myself bought the higher powered Cree bulbs you linked to but know of people who have and they are not luminous enough to be used as driving lights.
I want to point out irregardless of size bulb, H4/H11/9006 etc, these type LED bulbs made for headlights are not bright enough for main beam driving.
^This I passed a G3 with the LED headlight configuration like the ones below: when I was running my Mini H1 Conversion running 55w HID setup - My setup was Waaaay brighter as far as beam pattern output and lighting up the road.
Now we're talking two different things, I think. You're referring to the stock LED headlamps in your post, compared to HID upgrades in halogen projectors, correct? The 'point' of the thread the OP asked was are aftermarket LED conversions for headlights suitable enough for driving and answer is they simply are not bright enough to be used. As to the stock LED headlamps that came out beginning with the 2010+ Prius, I had them in my 2010 and 2012 and quite honestly they were plenty bright enough. Aftermarket LED headlight bulbs are a completely different story.
Point i was making was that even stock led headlights aren't even as bright as the mini h1 hid conversion i did. If you looking for brighter lights, whether doing a LED retrofit, or just swapping LED bulbs, as of now, i haven't seen anything comparable in beam pattern and brightness for the Prius then a projector retrofit HID setup.
