Any reason to think that the same voodoo rules would work with a 2010 Camry Hybrid? I know this is a Prius forum, but I havent found similar info for the Camry. If anyone has any insights, it would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Tim

I would be willing to bet it would work. Toyota would not design a different system for the Camry. They would take the one that is already proven and simply use it. Lets face it, the less engineering you need, the better for your bottom line. My only concern is that I don't know if this procedure will work on a 2010 Prius. If I were in you're shoes, I would try it.

I was thinking along the same lines. I believe some of the priuses used the same fob--hyq14aab. I'll give it a shot and will report back after I try it.

    Thanks,

The transponder ("key in dash") function works with used fobs (as in 2004-2009 Prius). The remote buttons/proximity function requires a never-programmed fob or a "seed reset" (read locksmith/dealer). Been true since 2004 - the change since then is that the 2010+ doesn't use a transponder.

    Hi all,

New user here, just bought a used 2007 Prius gen II that only came with one key. Just want to say thanks to those contributing to this forum page, as it's already saved me a good couple of hundred bucks! After doing a bit of reading here I ordered a silver logo SKS key from Cleveland Toyota and was able to successfully program it in using the steps in usnavystgc's post #88 exactly.

It took me about 4 tries to get it, and what I found to be the difference was the 3 second wait between pressing both keys and then just the lock key...
9c: Wait about three seconds then press the lock key on the NEW fob. If successful the lock/unlock will cycle once indicating success.

A suggestion from my experience to anyone still having trouble would be to experiment with different delay periods between pressing both keys and then just the lock key on the new fob. Perhaps the actual requirement is to wait AT LEAST 3 seconds inbetween, or something similar, as I got the feeling I wasn't patient enough for my unsuccessful attempts.

Also just to add it looks like brand new keys are also available a bit cheaper from these guys
originalkeyless com (can't post the full link as I'm new)

It's not 100% clear on their page that they are virgin keys but I emailed them asking and this was their response:

    Hello,

Thanks for your interest in our site!

Yes, we have remotes and keys in stock for the 2007 Prius.

    Direct Link: <....>

These are NEW - Factory OEM remotes, exact same items available at the dealership parts department - nothing aftermarket. When your vehicle was sold new, it came with keyless entry and 2 remotes.

You can purchase 1, 2, 3, or 4 remotes (the max your system can store at once is 4).

While we do have the remotes available for your vehicle at a huge discount on our web site, that particular vehicle does require locksmith programming of the remotes when they are received.

Many locksmiths now have the small portable scantools and can program remotes in the parking lot in 10 seconds, rather than book time in a service bay for such a quick procedure.

Most locksmiths will do this for free as a courtesy to local customers.

I guess they haven't caught wind of the chicken dance yet :)
Not sure if anyone has ordered anything from them and had any success but I'm thinking about ordering one so I have a 3rd spare. If I go ahead with it I'll be happy to report back on my results.

    Thanks again!

Thank you for the help. We will get this right eventually. :)

As for buying the keys from originalkeyless.com, I wouldn't trust them. They are likely factory rejects, customer returns or seller refurbished. No third party company has access to buy brand new, virgin keys. Only the dealers can buy them. I wouldn't trust anything else.

Thanks for your detailed instruction. I successfully programmed my new FOB for 2009 Prius on my first try.

Many thanks to usnavystgc, I also bought a brand new FOB from Conicelli Toyota (PartZnet) for only $141. I was lucky to get their 10% coupon. Post #88 instruction was clear and I got a full function key for my 2009 Prius in 15 mins.

Hello all - I have a 2004 Prius w/Smart Keyless Entry. My sweetie lost one of my fobs a few months ago, and I got a replacement from Roseville (Calif) Toyota (a dealership) today. Using usnavystgc's detailed instructions, I programmed the new fob just fine for starting the car, but I have tried every permutation described by all of you for programming the other functions, with no success. If the dealership gave me a fob that is not brand new, will they be able to program it or will it fail for them? (If the latter, perhaps they'd supply me with a truly new key at no extra charge?) BTW, Roseville Toyota charges $218 for a new fob (but I had a 20% off coupon). Other Toyota dealerships around here charge differing amounts for the same part, per my calling around. I got slightly varying quotes, all over $100, for the dealerships to program the fob. ....Thanks in advance for any advice or comments.

I don't know why the instructions are not working for you but I'm gonna do 2 things.

    1) refer you to the "sticky" for this (How to Program a New Key Fob for Full SKS Functionality | PriusChat) Pls try this and pmail me with the results
    2) Ask you to post (on this thread) where exactly you're getting stuck

If the fob is indeed a "brand new" fob, the dealer will be able to program it with no issues. If it is not, they will need to do a "seed reset" to get the SKS portion to work (also called Prox or proximity) because the code will be set for another vehicle (at least that's my understanding of it).

Let me add my name to the list of having successfully programmed a new sks fob. Thanks for the great instructions. Once I finally learned to follow them exactly, all went well.
I was also fortunate to purchase a brand new sks fob for $107.10 from a Toyota dealership. (It pays to have a wife that is a parts manager for a body shop.)

Prius is limited to five fobs to be in the register at any time.

Techstream software can clear the register and also add fobs to the register. (Toyota techs have this, also available on "mini vci" for on Ebay and Amazon.

well that will be great, got my new fob ordered from TOYOTA parts in Az. $103 ,,, local dealer price was $385 programmed out the door. They said "we are not allowed to sell them unprogramned!" Sure makes me trust them, they said that order comes from TOYOTA, yea sure! These are same guys that wanted $4K to replace both headlight assemblies on my car, however they would eat 50% as goodwill gesture. Got them replace for FREE in Orlando. I think it would be better if the local dealer would just have a gun an mask on, at least then you would feel better when they take the money. I drive 5 hours to Steve at AUTOBEYOURS for repairs and maintenance.

The lock/unlock buttons on my old FOB no longer work. Is there still a way to program a new FOB?

Not if they're not working. What that likely means is that your battery is not making contact with the contacts on the fob itself. Your fob is holding the battery but, not connecting to it. You will likely have to bend the contacts in the fob to get it to make contact.
