What car does your Prius replace?

Prissy (my white 2005 Prius) replaced a 1995 Acura Integra GS-R with approximately 120,000 miles. This Integra didn't hold up as well as my '87 Integra LS did. I sold it to Carmax about a year ago for twice what I thought the blue book value was, and I missed that car for oh, maybe 2 minutes. It was a fun little ride when it was newer, I do miss the handling and the steering precision, but I don't miss all the little problems that started to creep up.

 

2003 Pilot EX with Leather. 66000 loving miles, but 19 MPG on highway at 'speed' and 14 around town. (Not replaced are a '93 VW Eurovan and a '90 Mercedes 300SE that am holding on to until I decide I will be happy with the smaller car.) Tank Fill-ups cost HP - $50; VW $52; MBZ $65 (one was $78! :angry: )

Put 1600 miles on Prius in 3 weeks and 50 on the Mercedes. This may change when novelty wears off. My commute is 1.25 miles each way but errands cause about 50 to 100 miles a day (and I've found I enjoy running around in the Prius a more). Averaging 46 MPG in Prius. Tank fill-up cost $27.

The gas bill has dropped $150 a month. Darn!! :lol:

 

I replaced a 2002 Ford F-350 Super Duty TurboDiesel which I used for my 135 mile per day commute. That baby cost me $1,800 a month to feed, insure and maintain. Kinda like having a dozen x-tra kids in the house?

 

Our 2005 Prius (package #2) replaced a pair of Saturns... a 1999 SL2 (medium sedan) and a 2002 SC1 (small coupe).

 

Replaced our old 1988 BMW 735i with 145K. I really miss the handling and amenities, but not the 15-20 mpg.

 

my Prius is my first car. Ever. Almost a year old now and stil loving it!

 

My two replacements where:
87' F150 4spd w/granny 1st, 6mpg cty / 12mpg hwy.
cost me $75.00 a wk in gas, then the 4 crate 351ci motors (wouldnt hold up) & $200 a month in repairs (every month)!

Traded it in on a 04 tundra quad cab 17 cty / 23 hwy.

96 Saturn GL 1.4L first the sunroof went and the warranty went then would have to fill up 2 tmes a week $50 a wk in gas..

traded it in for a 04' prius and the rest is history

 

1990 Honda Civic Sedan

 

I'm replacing a 1993 Ford Explorer with a 2006 Prius. She's served me very well and I cast but one tiny tear as she heads off to new journeys with an owner to be named later (I haven't sold her yet).

The new Prius though is awesome and I hope I can get most if not all (or more) of the 170,000 miles I got out of my Explorer.

 

1995 Ford Explorer. 147,000 miles. Starting to nickel & dime me. But I will miss not having a car payment.

 

When I pick up my Prius, it will be replacing a 2001 Pontiac Montana minivan that has 104,300 miles. My youngest got his license and a car in January so I don't need a minivan any longer. The transmission on the Montana fell apart, literally. The transmission shop owner wanted to buy it for his wife because it was in great shape otherwise so we all were happy.

4PM tomorrow, the Prius will be mine and I cannot wait!

Replacing my Mercedes C36 AMG which just crossed 100,000 miles. It's a real sexy go-fast luxury car but starting to hurt me with middle age maintenance and reliability issues. I got it after having Colon Cancer surgery which is a time when you (a) do crazy things, and ('b) do whatever the hell you want. So now I'm still alive five years later which means I'm cured, so I'm settling back to being a more reasonable person again. I like several things about Prius. 1) Toyota quality and reliability (same reason I owned Mercedes), 2) Engineer geek appeal, and 3) I can fight the oil war in my own small way. I did admit to a friend today, now I am switching from Mercedes Arrogance to Prius Arrogance; fits my personality I admit. Also looking forward to $100 per month fuel savings and no more breathtaking maintenance bills for at least several years. Looking forward to joining the club with my '06 black on black package 8 Prius in a few weeks.

my Seaside Blue '06 pkg 8 replaced a 1991 VW Passat Wagon GL with 110K (bought it new) and a 1989 VW Vanagon Westalia. I'll miss the Westfalia but am trying to avoid car payments. The VWs always left an oil spot in the driveway. Toyota seems to be a better built/engineered vehicle. I spent a month in Japan this summer and I'm now a convert.

 

My Seaside Peral #7 which I just picked up tonight replaced my 1988 Nissan Stanza. I thought the Stanza was on it's last legs two years ago, but it refused to die so I'm just forcing it into retirement. It served me very very well.

 

I replaced my 1996 Camry that I've had since high school. 113k and running fine. Had to put a new exhaust on in 2004, other than that only oil, tires, and brakes.

I'm sure it would have run for several more years, but I'm planning to go back to school full time, and wouldn't be able to get a loan if it died on me. So while I'm gainfully employeed, and the tax credit is lucrative, I jumped on the chance to upgrade.

My dad is currently working on selling it. While I love my new Prius...I'm still sentimental for the car I had high school, college, and my first two years on my own. While I'm getting better mileage...it won't offset the car payment and increase in my insurance. But....I would have been getting a newer car anyway...and it will offset the nonexistant difference in my spending there I would likely have bought an Accord.

 

I ordered my '06 Black pkg #8/grey leather on 2/27/06. When it arrives in either May or June, it will replace a 2002 Jeep Liberty 4x4. The Jeep was my first totally brand new car and was loaded. I love my Jeep, but 17.5 to 18.5 avg mpg is killing me due to a 90+ mile roundtrip commute for work and that is about to go up after 4/1/06 due to supervising a new part of the my region. I am soooo excited about the new car.

DH currently drives the same amount, but in a different direction. He will drive the Prius on days I don't work. He is currently driving an 89 Toyota pickup.

 

I just got plain lucky!

Had been admiring the Prius for a long time. Drive 28k miles a year. Had convinced my employer to pay for my gas. Had a great sales year.

Asked for a raise, and showed them that they could bump my car allowance, but would cut their gas bill in half! They bit!

Bye Bye small SUV, Hello Prius (and hello carpool lane next month!)

Hells yeah. I recently replaced my 94 GSR with a Prius too. That thing was great in that it never stopped ticking... 13 y/o with poor treatment from it's owner, missed maintenance, hopped curbs, street racing, and it still ran like .... well, old, but it still ran damnit (with substandard maintenence budget).

Problem was that it also was a borderline gross polluter, and my wife HATED the thing. It felt and sat like a go-cart on steroids not to forget ...LOTS of speeding tickets... ah, but the great memories.

Nowadays, I drive for best mileage, not best speed, acceleration or A-B time. I also miss the turn-on-a-dime handling, but the Prius really isn't that bad... and it's quiet

 

My Prius WILL BE replacing a 2002 VW new beetle. (I just ordered on Feb. 27th so Ive got a month or two until it arrives.. )
