Does anyone know how to remove a window from the rear doors? I have the door panel off and removed the 2 nuts which secure the window to the motor apparatus. From this point I can pull the front door windows out, but not the rear windows. I am trying to switch out hard water etched windows with cleaner windows from a wreck. Any help appreciated. Craig
Cleaning would have worked to prevent the etching, which is signifigant. I took it to an auto glass shop and they showed me how to polish out the etching and sold me a bottle of polish. I have sampled the polishing process and it would be much simpler and quicker to replace the glass. The replacement windows I already own and they are in good condition. The front door windows were pretty easy. They had enough play they could be tilted and pulled.
Thanks for your suggestion, JC. I tried a variety of products, including isopropl alcohol, to clean the glass with no luck. Apparently water containing acids and/or certain minerals left to dry on a vehicle that is infrequently washed or rinsed can eat into (etch) glass. When clean these windows look like dirty water has dried on them. So, like scratches that can be compounded out of a paint finish, these marks can be eliminated with a glass polish. This is all new to me and replacing with "clean" windows is my preference. The windshield does not suffer from this, my guess is it had been replaced before I purchased the vehicle. If no answer pops up here today I will try an auto glass shop tomorrow. I had hoped to have it done this weekend.
