A used unit from a late model gen2 is probably the cheapest option. I have to go that route. I missed out on one from a damaged car recently, got sent away with work, so missed it

Oh for sure. Try some of the insurance salvage yards for a written off late gen2.

I have heard that somewhere in the US repairs them too, but could be a b*llache sending it away and then awaiting the return. I did a quick search and found instructions on how to fix the issue. Maybe worth a try if you're up to the challenge? :)

In my case, it's the touchscreen itself that is broken. It cannot be fixed unfortunately. The unit itself works fine just the middle of the screen does not respond to touch

Sorry, by Head Unit I meant the CD Changer stereo unit, fortunately my MFD is OK (just power, seek, etc.). I got a 12 month Toyota warranty with the car, so hopefully it should be easily sorted out.

Not yet, the car is going to Toyota on Wednesday for them to take a look at it. I'm almost certain it won't do it when I take it to them, but fortunately I managed to get a video of it playing up. :p

I tempted fate with the last post - car was with them all day and left in the sun for a few hours, and the buttons worked perfectly. Just going to have to wait til they get worse now, I think.

Typical! Same as going to the doctor and feeling better in the waiting room!

Sods Law - don't give up! I don't suppose they'll let you drive it in to them at anytime, without an appointment, when it misbehaves again?

I'm hoping so as it only takes a couple of minutes to see the fault. The garage is also conveniently just round from where I work.
