So I tinted my prius yesterday...

Wow 5% even in SoCal is ballsy...and dangerous.
I actually sort of regret getting 18% rears and 35% fronts - I'm doing a lot more night driving and it's a tad bit dark.
I used to do 50% front and 30% rears...I think that's a much safer combo that doesn't really noticeably increase the temperature inside the car compared to slightly darker tint %.

 

In PA, windows can only be tinted to 70%, which is basically the factory UV protection. But people get away with 50% tint. The cops around here do give you a really hard time for anything darker. I live near route 222 which is a heavily traveled drug route leading directly to NYC. Most of the drugs that feed that city come up this road.

 

From a business perspective i guess it would make tons of sense. Good cargo room under the floor, and saves a ton of operating costs such as fuel and maintenance. They could paint it like a NYC taxi and they would blend right in.

 

Since you are going back to the tint shop again, you can make it right and go lighter all around. Yes you'll waste your money to redo it, but just think how happier you'll be. Life is too short to have regrets

 

I can take pics for you but its always changing the way it looks depending on where the sun is. its the sun is shining on the windshield its different that the sun shining on the hatch.

That tint reminds me of the movie "Daybreakers" where the Vampires drove vehicles that actually totally blocked out the sun.

Yeah...that's a little dark.

It's funny that tint isn't legal on the street in PA but goes right through inspection. I rolled around York for 10 years with 15% rear and 35% front. Then out of the blue I got stopped and reminded by a bored Hanover rookie that yep, it's illegal! ... Stayed out of Hanover after that.

I'd say a similar situation happened to me...get that 5% replaced!

 

It's a Prius....not a 87 Olds Cutlass on 13" Daytons.

I was driving around in a blacked out sportier car when I got stopped for the tint. I agree and like to think they'll leave Prii alone unless they're truly bored.

I just had my Prius windows tinted and the tint stops short of the window's edge by about 1/8". Is that normal?

 

If you are talking about the top edge where the window goes up and it wouldn't show when up, then yes that is normal.

 

I think the darker the better. It looks great as-is.
