Just disabled the reverse beep from continue beep to one beep by mini Elm 327 with Elm Terminal AT command.
My main problem is there is no clear instruction on how to use Elm Terminal (since it is free).

After download the software, I need to pair it up with the Mini Elm by Bluetooth connection then hit the menu to connect, I also need to make sure to set the Timer off.

Eventually I figure out All those command should be type in the small left corner windows (instead of the Big windows)
Other documents/steps also missed to mention to clear out any previous command before you type and sent the next command. Overall, the real steps and instruction is there and but those detail will prevent new Prius owner to follow.

I also download the Carista to check out how it will display and config. It is clear for me to find where to change it by several clicks without too much technical know how.

Thanks again for Todor to provide the app and even answer all the questions/concerns. I think that is great for someone do not want to mess around with Command prompt tool.

Thanks again for the thread and Priuschat provide so many useful information.

What "other" free method are you referring to?

Thanks chang50012 and Southbound - I'm glad you find Carista useful!

I believe the free method in question is to use a command-line terminal to connect to the ELM327 device and send commands to it manually to configure the vehicle to disable the reverse beep. I probably shouldn't post this since it's competition for Carista, but for the sake of helping out, here's a link to some instructions: Programming a Prius to Disable the Backup Beep » Dogberry Patch
But a word of caution: if the vehicle doesn't respond EXACTLY like it says in the instructions, don't proceed because you may inadvertently mess up some other setting. Every 2 hexadecimal digits represent 1 byte, i.e. 8 bits. The reverse beep only uses 1 bit out of those 8 bits... and these instructions assume that all other 7 bits are zeroes. But if on your car they're not all zeroes, then you have to do some binary calculations to adjust for that, or else you'd be changing some other settings without knowing it. The line in question is where the vehicle returns 61 AC 00. If the last 2 digits are not 00, then you have to do binary addition to just set the 6th bit (which is the reverse beep bit) without changing any other bits. For example, if the value is 80 instead of 00, don't change it to 40 (in the line where you enter 3bac40); instead, change it to C0, which is 80 (hex) + 40 (hex) in hexadecimal representation.

In contrast, Carista lets you do this by just tapping a few buttons... and does all those calculations automatically under the hood, without bothering the user with technical details. But if you feel like you've got a grip on this communication protocol, then by all means, do it using the terminal and save youself $9.99. For everyone else, there's Carista :)

Sure glad you did the Carista app, that sounds like scary stuff to me. Now get to work on some of the other settings, for instance the seat belt beep and recalculate the mpg display.:D

That's what I like to hear!

Just emailed you back about this. Turns out your aftermarket alarm (from Rockledge Securities) assumes there will be 2 clicks to unlock all doors, and they apparently even say in the alarm manual not to change the all-door-unlock setting. You do have the option to rewire the alarm itself (see my email), but as far as Carista is concerned, we just change the setting in the car's ECU like the dealer would, and have no control over aftermarket alarms. Sorry that I can't help further.

I'm on it :) But the mpg calibration is not going to happen, unfortunately. Looks like there's no such setting for these cars. I'm still consulting with lawyers on the seat belt thing. We do have the technical ability to disable the chime, it's just a matter of whether we're allowed to offer that feature... and not be sued. But in any case, we are in the process of adding a bunch of new settings, so stay tuned for an update :)

    Todor,
Not sure if you are looking for new ideas (or if you have thought about this already), but how about being able to read/set the RFID of the tire pressure sensors in the car computer. Thanks.

I downloaded Carista months ago when I first heard about it, and now that I actually got a Prius I finally got around to hooking it up, only to sadly find that only Gen III models are supported. The Gen 2s can't be THAT ancient, can they? Any chance for some love for us?

Downloaded the app for my Nexus 7 (I'm an iOS user) and I love it! Now seeing that I can also adjust auto lamp sensitivity I want to hurry up and do the auto headlight mod. I really do hope you'll be able to allow us to disable the seat belt chime. Thank you for your hard work.

    I don't get this... what is S1a?

Yes, actually this came up on clublexus as well. I'm looking into it - seems like it's a problem that needs solving for Toyota/Lexus owners.

Mostly adding more customizable settings and more ECUs that you can diagnose. The next official release will probably happen within a month. There will be a beta version available much sooner - maybe even this week. I'll let you guys know when it's ready.

Thanks! We'll see about the seat belt chime - still looking into whether it's legal (everywhere) to turn it off :)

Has anyone tried the new Beta version yet? the app says you can sign in using a gmail account and they will send you the beat link as a tester.

I have to say that this was money well spent just to get rid of that darned beep

I just installed the beta today and I have no option to turn off the reverse beep. Was it removed?

I just sent you an email based on the report you had submitted. The issue in your case is the Bluetooth OBD device that you're using - it uses version 1.3a of the ELM327 chip, whereas Carista requires v1.4 or newer: see Hardware | Carista OBD2 - Vehicle Diagnostics and Customization

But as I said in the email, it IS technically possible to get the particular ECU that's responsible for the reverse beep to work with v1.3a, so I'll try to do it and send you a new beta version of Carista to try. Still won't have ALL settings though. Ultimately I recommend buying a new device that complies with ELM327 v1.4 or newer.

Just tried the new beta. It fixed the problem I had with the previous one connecting, but still no support for Gen 2 Prius. Pretty please?

Thanks for trying the beta. No support for the Gen 2 yet, sorry. But it's very close to the top of our list for future model expansion.
