Just an update, on Friday I purchased a new 2014 Prius 4 in Blizzard Pearl White with Dark Gray interior. I've always been the type of person who gets "the best" or top of the line in anything I buy, so its kind of killing me that I did not get the package 5. The price difference is roughly $2k more but would have put me financially where I didn't want to be. Im trying not to think about it too much, and just enjoy what I have. Someone please tell me that adaptive cruise control sucks or that it has been worthless. As for the fogs, I can always add them, and I plan on retrofitting my headlights so LED is not a huge concern.

Awesome!! Congrats on your new Prius! (y) (y)

I came from driving high HP SUV's my whole life.. so I can relate. I test drove a Prius last year for shits & giggles and LOVED it much like you did too.

Anyways, Ive had my Gen2 for almost exactly 18 months :D and am sooooooo glad I bought it!! Ive never looked back.

Me too, I bought a III but was considering a 5. I can say that the Prius is a really cool car all by itself and has kept me intrigued and satisfied with what it does have.

You're going to retrofit? Do you have any plans on what projector you're going to use?

You bought a great reliable car that will save money on fuel, especially when those fuel prices go up. Don't worry about the resale price... buy the Prius for the long run and keep it until it fails... that's gonna be quite a few years. Not many cars are that great of an investment. Most car's are tools to get from one place to another, comfortable and safely. The Prius does that job well, and allows over 50 mpg. I can't think of a car I would rather have.

    Congratulations!

I did it... Caught a lot of crap from co-workers. Sold my 350Z bought a 4x4 Truck, less than 12 months later said See-Ya to my 13.6 MPG truck for my Prius. Enjoying the mileage everyday. I did replace the silly 15" rims with 18" took about a 4 MPG hit (Although yesterday I hit 70 MPG)

I am really struggling with what to buy between an 06-08 Acura TSX and a 10-11' Prius. Silly I know, very different cars. I can get a TSX of that age for 2-3k less and I think it will take me 3-4 years to make that difference up in fuel costs. Then I probably will put an extra 1k or more in wheels and tires into the prius so thats another year on the break even (my preference).

Why am I saying this here? Because I hope you good people might say something to talk me in to the Prius. I am figuring a 10' Prius III in my area will go for about $16500. Probably drive 12k a year.

I think I arrived at my own answer. I took some of the nice pics from this site and put them side by side with other cars and found I actually like the way the Prius looks more, so it's worth a little more money.

I looked briefly at the TSX. It's been a couple of years, but IIRC, beyond FE I preferred the Prius because of the rear seat room. The rear seat was important for family comfort (2 pre-teens).

It is very hard to know. Is it possible that you sold the truck for to low of a price? If you traded it in, they may have given you a lower price on the new car and also a lower price on the trade. auto dealers do make a profit, and it comes from their customers. If the taccoma is still worth 20k that is great but it still doesn't follow the normal depreciation.

I have a tundra and a prius! I did the complete cusco kit and honestly I now drive the prius 90% of the time! I am a mechanic that has always owned used or complete wrecks that I rebuilt. I finally decided to buy new but only wanted a vehicle that would be solid for a minimum of 200k+ miles. Well both vehicles fill that need very nicely and that is also why the depreciation conversation is very subjective to a persons needs. How much is it worth to you to be able to own a vehicle (hopefully and most likely) trouble free for 10 years!

If this isn't a ringing endorsement of Prius, I don't know what is-- my very set in her ways friend likes only Really Big Vehicles. She drives one of those big Ford trucks, and that's her lower threshold for vehicle size. She is not a car person at all. She said that my Prius is the only car she's sat in that she doesn't absolutely hate. So, yeah. Ringing endorsement right there. These things are changing minds all over, I reckon. "I don't hate it." Win.

I did a similar thing to the OP when I traded my 2013 F150 for my Prius. I really liked the truck, but with three kids and a wife who is now a full-time student I was looking to cut my monthly expenses. I could have gotten a compact car like a Focus or Civic, but I'm a bit of a geek and was really intrigued with the hybrid loaner I got a few months ago.

I think my 2013 Prius is a fantastic car. It's got more road noise and way less power than the truck, but I find it really cool that I can average better fuel economy than I can on my motorcycle. They make cars and trucks every day, and if I want or need a truck in the future I can always find one once my wife graduates. But for the moment I really like the Prius! :)

Curious parallels to your situation. Bought Prius after Toyota replaced the frame on my Tundra and I had a Prius loaner for several days. Also find Prius overall mileage better than my motorcycle (BMW) and and drive it most often. But find switching from driving Prius in Eco mode to either Tundra or bike a jolt as throttle is WAY more sensitive on those.

Our 'tale of woe' by the numbers:

    1) Our 2011 LTZ Cruze never delivered anything NEAR it's EPA fuel-economy numbers.
    2) GM Customer Service never demonstrated ANY interest in attempting to solve ANY of the cars problematic defects.
    3) So, we dumped the Cruze for a 2014 Prius-4, but we REALLY wanted a 2014 PiP but none were availabe in Arizona.

But one state over is a ton of PiP's at great prices.

I live in one of the states furthest from any PiP sales, but I didn't let that stop me from getting one of the greatest cars on the road.
