Haven't got a recall letter yet. Called my dealer and got the recall done last Monday. $0-charge Invoice said they did the EOE recall. Nothing else to indicate the recall was done. Car seems to perform the same.

You don't have a 6 month service. You have only a 5,000 mile tire rotation.

It's by the dash, but that's always been a little off. Either way, I'm comparing dash to dash :)

I just did my recall today and my 25k service all together about 1.5 hrs. Maybe its just me but I feel like the engine comes on a lot more. Going my normal route for the day I couldn't get the bar to be above the 50 mark as I usually do, plus is seems like that MPG bar is way too jumpy now where as before it was nice and slow moving. I don't know maybe Im just searching for a problem.

    No.
Currently - My Prius fuel consumption display is bouncing around 56 to 58 mpg.

53 mpg that I stated previously is computed at the pump when I do a fill up
53 mpg is about *normal* wrt fuel efficiency at this time of the year (wintertime) for me.
    - so far- it does not look like the software update has any major impact on me.

My entire fuel log is on Fuelly under HyperDrive One and Cleanmpg under HyperDrive 1.
I will have been hypermiling my Prius for four years by 2014 May.
I'm rated as a skilled hypermiler on Cleampg's website so my fuel efficiency is higher than normal.
My overall fuel efficiency average for my 2010 Toyota Prius III is 60 mpg.
My worst MPG is 44 mpg and my best MPG is 71 mpg.
My overall fuel cost for the life of the car is about 5.5 cents per mile for 45,500 miles but for this year -2014- my fuel cost is running higher at 6.5 cents per mile

My unique hardware consideration: tires overinflated by 9psi, grill blocking, and a ScangaugeII.

    hope this helps

I've watched your hypermiling for years and it's impressive.

What gauges do you watch on the Scangauge? And can you go into how it's helped you?

SGII xgauges that I use and how to read them:

AVG = average trip fuel efficiency --- you want to get +50 mpg in the winter and +65 mpg in the summer.
LOD = engine load --- you want to be between 60 to 80 most of the time,
going over 85 means reduced fuel efficiency, while 60-70 helps keep fuel efficiency high
GPH = gallons per hour --- 0.0 to 0.2 when coasting unde 46 mph about 0.3 to .6 when coasting over 46 mph
FLV = gallons of gasoline in your fuel tank is full when at 11.4 ... gas tank is near empty at 0.7
SoC = High Voltage Battery state of charge , over 72 means you need to use the electric motor, under 55 means you are using the electric motor too much

Prius HSI display can maximize the regenerative braking and minimize hydraulic braking.

In hilly terrain and in stop-and-go-bumper-to-bumper-traffic-jams - very responsive throttle control of PWR setting helps the driver minimize the risk of draining the HV battery and thus provides better overall fuel efficiency than ECO mode

    hope this helps

Not sure what warm weather mileage was like before the recall, but today was 70 degrees and I reset the trip b when I hit the highway. I drove 29 miles with cruise set to 73 mph and averaged 56.3 mpg! This was in eco mode with a/c on and set to auto and 76 degrees.

Yeah, the warming weather makes it really hard to gauge how my mpg is going. It's on it's way up, but that's the usual for what passes for Spring around here.

Now earlier in this thread and in the other thread about issues that came up after the recall, some people said that they had weird electronic issues where the dome light wouldn't turn off, a/c acting funny, door locks not functioning normally, etc. Are there other reports of this or does this seem to be a totally unrelated issue? We've seemed to be so worried about acceleration and mpgs that the electrical issues kind of got forgotten.

I had my recall update done on 2/14/2014, around 7 weeks ago. My car mileage has gone back up to 50 - 53 mpg that is a mix of freeway/around town driving. I live is SoCal so winters are not really harsh here. Again I will state that my car seems to operate much smoother than before the update. Acceleration is fine, cruising is fine, mileage has returned to near normal. The only change I have noticed is the SOC charge indicator stays at 1 bar from the top almost all the time. Before the update it always ran at 2 bars from the top and occasionally 3 bars.

Overall I am very pleased with the way my Prius performs after the recall update. I am very glad Toyota was out in front about this issue, not like GM in it's ignition switch recall fiasco (going on right now). I guess Toyota learned it's lesson about sandbagging recalls (Prius acceleration issues).

Just my 2 cents here. I am truly sorry that other Prius owners on this board are having issues and I really hope they are resolved quickly and to the owners satisfaction.

The Prius is a truly remarkable and complex car and I am going to enjoy mine for many years to come.

As a short side note. My wife never did like the looks of the Prius and she stated she would never buy one. But when she saw how infrequently I was putting gas in the car, she began to realize there was more to hybrid cars than looks. Anyway she just bought a new 2013 Camry Hybrid and she is very happy hybrid owner now.

If only the eRAV4 was cheaper I could convince my wife..

I will be getting my recall done next Monday. I plan to do a follow up with the testing I have posted in the last few pages. I have ~5k miles on the odometer. I will put another 5k in the next 10 weeks or so. That should give us a final MPG number with at least on model year.

I wonder if anyone here has any information for me about a backordered part pertaining to this recall.

I took my 2012 Prius in on March 17 for scheduled routine maintenance, and they told me about the recall and said it should take about 45 minutes for the software update. I wanted to go ahead and do it although my car had been driving perfectly.

Apparently when the computer was hooked up to my car, the dealership computer shorted out/crashed. They said it was a fully charged computer so it was unexpected. Anyway, they initially weren't sure what to do so put a call in to Toyota.

After a few days the service department told me they had to order a new part that had been backordered, and they weren't sure when it would come in. I have been waiting and checking in periodically, and today I received a message that the part would not be in until at least the end of April.

Has anyone heard of this? I have been searching the web but haven't found details, but then again, if the part is backordered maybe that means something? They did give me a loaner camry but I drive a lot for work and am really missing that 50 mpg! Plus I just want my own car back. Now I am also worried what this all means for my car.

    Any insight would be appreciated--thanks!

What a major bummer. When they do get it fixed, make sure you are a 100% satisfied with the way it runs.

They probably didn't follow the instructions correctly and blew an ECU which they now need to replace (direct from Japan).

Thank you, Spider. I hope that a blown ECU isn't that big of a deal if that is in fact what it is! They said my car stopped recognizing the hybrid system so was undriveable. I am so ready to get my car back!
