How to do you remove 90 degree-turn floor mat retaining clips?

    My Prius came with the retaining clips that turn 90 degrees to lock in the mats and I just purchased Prius Plus mats which have hook style retaining clips.

    Anyone know how to remove the 90 degree retaining clips? I have tried to pull at them and it lifts the carpet with it and im afraid I might rip out a section of carpet if I pull to hard.

    I have the hook style, and I have the weather tech mats. its a huge PITA to get the mats out when you wash the car.

    I ended up pulling the hooks out all together. makes it easier to clean up, and I'm not worried about the WT mats slipping and pinning my pedals.

    I think that is what the OP is asking- how to remove those clips. I don't know how.

    the hooks, just pulled right out... they now rattle around in the glove box...

    They look completely different, maybe I cannot swap them out.

    there's gotta be a way to remove them... with out destroying the carpet

    now you could probably "destructively remove them" using a dremel type tool, plyers, hammer, ect..

    with the hook style the carpet has a finished edge so it not going to unravel or anything..

    My wife did this in her Altima and just attached velcro to the bottom so they don't move.
