Hi all Was wondering if anyone here has taken out the carpet and added dyno mat or fat mat yet. If so does this make a big difference in road noise? Or very little? My C2 seems pretty loud on the freeway. Thanks for the help and info
My son-in-law dynomatted his 2005 Prius under the carpet and in the trunk, but didn't do the doors. I measured about a 5 dBa reduction. Changing the tires can also help. DoctorD
There are some threads in the audio forum of members who have done this. All have reported improved sound quieting.
150lbs of dynomat is what the aforementioned user had... I don't think that will affect the MPGs much.
Thanks for the info. Would you happen to know any threads that have some pics and detailed info on installing front speakers and tweeters? Thanks
I know this sounds like a smart nice person answer, but if you enjoy music, upgrade the OEM audio system. I've tired quieting a few econoboxes in my lifetime. Thin materials including carpet, metal, and glass are nearly impossible to get ahead of...
I found doing the pillar seals and door lower seal helped a bit for road noise. But on highway the engine low hum is there always. If you would like some photos I'll be happy to post some for you
The road surface is a big factor in road noise. I have one road where they switched to a different grade of blacktop and the noise changes drastically.
I got them fitted here in another city, but if you want its a easy DIY job. I just have a lot on my plate these days and money was a tool to solve my problems so I paid to have them done. The parts is roughly $80 for the whole vehicle. If you are interested I can have it shipped to you. They have 3M adhesive backing I think and all you need is rubbing alcohol to clean the areas and off you go. They don't interfere with the original seals of the car and no water problems after heavy rain.
Gotcha, I appreciate your offer. I'll take a raincheck for now! If it was a simple item I would've given it a try, but not a top priority currently for me.
