Is the pro-package the $10 app fee? Or something additional?

That's the one - the Pro Package is what you bought. As of now, there are only 2 paid features in Carista:
    • Pro Package ($9.99) - allows you to change customization values and check/reset manufacturer-specific fault codes from all ECUs in the vehicle.
    • Overheat alarm ($0.99) - continuously monitors engine temperature (works for any OBD2 car). You automatically get this functionality if you have purchased the Pro Package.

Yes. Carista is free. Pro (needed to save changes) is $10.

Carista works very well. I have the paid version and I have been able to reduce the reverse beep to one only, I removed the door locking on Drive and other things too. I like the "Torque" app too.

I'm anxious to see the new version.

    Thank you.

    +1

Its weird to not have access to an app thats out there. Im actually really jealous too because that carista app looks very user friendly.

The problem with iOS is that Apple restricts standard Bluetooth data communication. They want you to use the proprietary Apple protocol for Bluetooth communication, which means that the hardware has to be made specifically for Apple devices. So the standard ELM327 Bluetooth devices don't work. The other option is to use a WiFi device, but that has its issues too (mostly related to ease of use... which, ironically, is what Apple was presumably trying to fix by prohibiting standard Bluetooth devices, and the result is that in this particular case, they've made it worse for their users, who now have to use WiFi instead). WiFi ELM327 devices used to be considerably more expensive (like $70), but have recently come down in price, so it's a viable option.

In any case, we are investigating the possibility of creating an iOS version of Carista, probably using WiFi dongles. It certainly won't be ready in the next few months though.

Just used Carista for the first time. Changed the reverse to single beep (worked) and changed to unlock all doors with 1 click - this worked too, but the KARR alarm must not recognize this as it sets the alarm off if I try to open one of the back doors after just 1 click. Any workarounds for this?

No, the standard Bluetooth ELM327 devices are not compatible with iOS (unless your phone is jailbroken). You'd need a WiFi ELM327 device or a custom device made by one of the iOS app vendors.

Thanks for reporting this issue - I hadn't run into this before. Please email me at [email protected] and I'll look into it. If you don't mind, I'll ask you to send me a debug report from the app - but more details on that by email. Thanks.

Got your email, will look into it. But since you have an aftermarket alarm, I don't know if there's anything I'll be able to do. Might need to talk to the alarm vendor.

Ok, but just so you know, my comment was very general. Better consult with iOS app vendors about what hardware their apps work with :)

Todor- so given what I purchased, what app is compatible w/ this device,Carista? guess I don't fully understand the integration of the OBDII and various apps and Bluetooth vs WIFI. I have an Android tablet and an iPhone. Thanks

Currently, Carista is only available for Android phones or tablets and it only works with Bluetooth ELM327-compatible devices (see Hardware | Carista OBD2 - Vehicle Diagnostics and Customization ). I can't say anything about iOS apps - just look at their descriptions on the Apple App Store. Sorry about the confusion. Also, to my knowledge, there's no other app that can change Toyota settings (not on iOS and not on Android). The available apps for iOS and Android (besides Carista) can just scan for error codes and show real-time technical data from the engine and various sensors.

Southbound, your Android tablet should work brilliantly with Carista and a Bluetooth ELM device like those mentioned in this thread.

Thanks for the reply. SO... I guess I was under the impression that given what I bought ( w/an approp app) would allow me to change settings on my prius;sounds like I won't be able to do that- right.? That's just the icing on the cake, I really want it to read any error codes and better understand how the system works together, just an inexpensive way for self diagnosing. I should be good-right? Thanks again

As far as I know, there are iOS apps that can check/reset codes and show live data, just search for "OBD" or something similar in the app store. I think they'll be able to work with your WiFi adapter. Again, I'm not an expert in iOS and I've never used those iOS apps, so you're on your own there. Of course, I'd advise you to get a Bluetooth adapter too and use it with Carista :) (as long as your Android tablet supports Bluetooth and has Google Play Store).

Todor thanks for the input. Prior to buying the OBD-II WIFI, I had already downloaded Carista with the intention of using that; in the course of doing so, decided a Wifi device might pair better my iPhone as I always have that with me. I don't always have my tablet with me. Looks like you have a solid product there-nice work!
