My opinion is that all the conflicting responses are the result of a full and total ecu reset, which means everyone's cars are "learning" all over again, from square one.

 

Exactly, that's why reports of achieving higher mpg immediately following the update is meaningless. The ECU has to reset and relearn air to fuel mixture settings, O2 sensor calibration, etc.

I just received my letter yesterday. I will probably try to schedule an appointment next week some time.

In the meantime I have found the listed acceleration time of 0-60 mph in 9.8 seconds in the 2010 Prius Product Information manual. On 3 different attempts I have averaged about 9 seconds, 650V boost voltage and a range of 120-140 battery amps.

It will be interesting to take these readings after the update.

You're really "taking a bullet" for the Prius community, at the expensive of your mpg, lol. I couldn't bring myself to do that.

I had my first real opportunity to drive ours post-update, apart from driving straight home after the appointment. Impressions:

1. Acceleration up steep hills seems a bit more of a struggle. So heavy acceleration is maybe curtailed slightly?

2. The car seems to slip into and stay in electric-only propulsion more readily.

3. On the whole, seems steady, solid, no real complaints.

My wife drove it downtown to meet me and the in-dash liters/100 km was at 4.4. When we got home with me driving I'd managed to coax it down to 4.3. This is with half a tank gone since last trip meter reset.

This is very good for us, this time of year, on the snow tires. The weather's been warming (have to get the snows off), so that is a factor.

 

By test do you mean the 0-60 test? If so, what are your before and after results?

 

Yea, I do not mind wasting a little gas to gain some "before" performance data.


I kept waiting for someone else to post their results so I would have something to compare. I was really hoping somone would do the before and after. It looks like Chuck65 may have done this.

I am surprised that with all of the members reporting having the update completed, no one has reported any real data from SGII, Torque, Engine Link, min-VCI. Everything has been subjective.

 

Received recall letter yesterday. I opened the letter and saw "Safety Recall" on right side of the letter.

Reread many times, this seems Toyota will not fix the future problem that related with this safety recall, if software update is not done.

something different with Hyundai (during owned Hyundai Cars). they did major safety recall, and skip software update that caused Engine light went off(light on) . I talked to Hyundai dealer that not eagerly to do software update since this was not mandate by Hyundai HQ.
At the end, they fixed with the update, after engine light went off on my car without cost.
this was a hassle, they(Hyundai) should fixed/updated first recall than dealing later on.

well, I am living in parallel world where not sync-up once for awhile .

 

With all the chatter in this forum, I could not find definitive before and after information on acceleration (0-60 or dyno horsepower tests) or mileage. Both of these are easy to ascertain. Simple 0-60 mph android and iphone apps that auto start on acceleration can be used before the update and after, tested on various roads with similar weather conditions. For mpg, forget the dash readout that overstates mileage. Fill the tank, zero the tripmeter and check the mpg on several subsequent tank refills. All this subjective conjecture is pointless. Anyone???

If everyone has results that indicate slower acceleration after the recall, there is grounds for a class action lawsuit; the vehicle will have wrongly stated net hp and 0-60 times, and this materially effects our enjoyment of the car. IMHO, from a casual glance, the correct (albeit more costly) fix is to replace the failing caps with ones that can endure the driving conditions better instead of simply detuning the car to overcompensate.

 

Got my recall done today. When I got my car back, it felt the same but smelled funny.. oh that's probably the stench left by the mechanic who sat in my car and left it on to install the update. I noticed the cap to my 12V car lighter plug was left undone and mpg drop with the battery drained when I left it to them full.

Or they just took it around for a test drive... Well it's all said and done. 5k maintenance service with EOE recall done in under 3 hours.

 

I used Torque app and got between 9.8 and 10 second 0-60mph on my three tests. I didn't test any other aspects but let me know which ones you guys want me to test and I will.

 

Was this before the update? If so, please post after the update. If afterwards, without a before the test is of little help. Comparing to product info does not have the same conditions.

 

If you can monitor HV Battery amps and Voltage after Boost while performing 0-60 tests. After the update we can perform the after tests for comparison.

Mike, we were referring to all the other posts referring to mpg impressions immediately following the update.

I believe the overall mpg would decrease, but there's been a multitude of posts claiming improved mpg. Probably more to do with the warmer weather.

I got my ECU software updated last Saturday when I did my oil/oil filter change at about 45,500 miles at the Clarksville Maryland Toyota Dealership. I had a 8am appointment. I got in line at about 7:45am. My 2010 Prius was ready at about 11 am. The Service Specialist was told that my OE Yokohoma Avid tires still have enough tread for another 5000 miles ( I was thinking of replacing them with a set of Michelin Energy Saver All Season Tires). I haven't notice any big changes in the way the car handles so far. As far as fuel efficiency - I'm getting about 53 mpg this winter which is about normal for this time of the year when it is this cold.
