Help w purchase: 2007 Touring $14,000 vs 2008 Touring $13,000?

One thing that comes to mind to hopefully help the OP. The one thing I've seen happen over and over again regarding the Gen II Prius is that they go quick. I can't tell you how many times I've seen someone post on here for advice regarding a certain car (or two) and before you know it, they're gone. Just something to remember.

 

I'm having a good ownership experience with minimally-driven Gen II. When I bought it, I was commuting daily but for the past few years, it's been closer to 2k miles/year. It doesn't make sense, on paper, to keep it but I can't bring myself to part with it. The original 12v battery still managed to last about 6 years and with the replacement, driving it ~30 mins every week and a half or so seems to be keeping the 12v charged fine. I think as long as the 12v battery is in good shape and the car isn't left to sit too long at a time, it seems to do fine.

Mine served as the dog car for a few years--it does so nicely. With the back seats folded flat, there's plenty of space for them to walk around or lie down. I used a barrier behind the front seats. I learned to press the window lock when the dogs were in back--they like to stand on the window buttons and could let themselves out if I wasn't paying attention.

As other posts have indicated above, please ensure touring model is indeed a touring . Seller may claim otherwise but 16" tire and slightly bigger spoiler (which you will notice after couple of times on looking carefully) are the key.

The list of ads on ebay or local CL with claims of touring is indeed sad.

I preferred opting for Gen II over Gen III wrt overall $$ and drive. Good luck in your hunt.

How much for the Lexus?

 

I read that Consumer Reports prefers the Prius to the CT. They said the power train feels more encumbered in the CT and the reduced fuel economy is notable. I don't think they were impressed with the use of space either.

You may want to include a third-gen Prius in your investigation as well.

You've gotta love ridiculous sales techniques. It's amazing how strategies differ from one dealership to the next.

 

Notice the SRS warning light is on, in the photo that shows the speedometer (the light that shows a seated figure and a round ball.) If that light remains on, that is a problem.

 

Pics show the 15"wheels (6-spoke and I don't think they're touring(?))

 

Read post 11 again. The photo in your link is NOT a Touring. There at least was a thread that did a good job illustrating the differences. Wheels can be changed easily. The spoiler can be changed. Changing the suspension is not an easy or cheap job.

For 2007 Package 6 has everything, including leather same package for the Touring.
Package 5 has nav, same package for the Touring.
Package 4 has HID headlights as does Touring Package 3.
Package 3 has the HomeLink mirror & 6 CD player.
Package 2 doesn't have the mirror & CD player above. Same for Touring.
Package 1 is a fleet vehicle that does not have Vehicle Stability Control. Same for Touring.

All Touring have HID headlights and fog lights.

My advice is to figure out what the used car has then search for a market price.
