SPECIFIC Plastic Rivets - for Side Skirt Rocker Molding Trim

I remember have lost a couple of these that wiggled out of my rocker panel covers.

I used a couple of 7/8 inch or 22mm Heyco nylon hole plugs designed to close out open 1/2 inch nominal knock outs for electrical boxes like these on eBay.



Most large Hardware stores will have them. I got mine at Home Depot.

The "teeth" on these reach deeper and hold better than the originals.

I put mine on about 6 months, ago. I just went out and checked them, and they are still in place holding tight.

 

This is one of the fussier plastic trim pieces. I like to figure out how to remove such items, but so far I've left that one alone. There's a crazy quantity of fragile, trouble prone fasteners. A few of those large diameter fasteners are partial broken on ours, but so far it's holding up.

The ones I noted are available in the drawer bins at Lowe's for $1.39 for a bag of two. They are 7/8 inch black nylon hole plugs.

They can be ordered through Lowe's from the Grainger Catalog as Part #1ELW4 for a 25 pack, with free shipping to the Lowe's Store or to your home.

They hold better than the OEM ones.

 

I have definitely developed a love/hate relationship to these plastic fasteners. Overall I'll be happier when something different comes along.

 

I had one pop of in the same position on each side of my 2012 "v" about 6 months, ago.

I replaced them with the ones that I noted, 6 months, ago. They HAVE NOT come off, since.

I'd look under your Prius"v." They may be gone, too.

 

I've had a rattle that seemed related to wind speed since I got my Prius last October that sounded like something inside either the driver's side front or rear door. After reading this thread and hearing the sound yet again this past weekend, it finally occurred to me that the sound could be coming from below the car. Sure enough, the front portion of the panel had pulled itself partially through the plug. I was able to remove the plug and reuse it for now.

That did turn out to be the source of the sound.

I see a similar type fastener around the damaged parts of my piece I believe to be a rocker panel. Just wanted to see if you had the same damage and how you dealt with it. Thanks.

 

I know this thread was effectively closed 2 and a half years ago, but KUDOS to Mike-500 for the tip on the hole plugs. I could have spent a day chasing down the correct Toyota part number, waited a week for it to come in, and spent a LOT of money. But instead an elegant solution at the local home depot for $0.60. You sir, are brilliant!
