    Hey yourself.
Have you actually READ any of the other posts in this thread ????
There is no "extra boost" inherent in high octane fuel. Nada, none.
You are gaining nothing and wasting money.

That is extremely bad for you GTR... you are exposing the engine to under-detonation which can do amazingly bad things to the internals of your engine... but it's your $80k car...

That's interesting cause I actually save about $30 a month with Prius and it still runs circles around other cars. My car tech, zoland, recommended me the specific fuel, as he mentioned boosts and money saving. But hey, to each their own right? Gtr runs fantastic with the 89, and that giant engine just makes me happy ;)

Why do I need to save money? I got a gtr!

If you really have a GT-R and a Prius and you're putting Premium in the Prius and 89 octane in the Nissan???
    Well....

I guess that's life in America.

The nice thing about threads on forums in the internet is that they're key-word searchable. :)

IF you're a Prius owner and you're wondering about the whole Premium fuel thing?
    You don't have to.
    If you do anyway????
    It won't hurt anything. ;)

If you have a GT-R and you're wondering if you can save $0.20 a gallon by putting 89-octane in a $90,000.00 (2014 MSRP) car???
You probably can, because the $20,000.00 semi-automatic transmission will probably put the car in the shop before your moronic fuel choice does much real harm to the car if you drive it hard enough for the extra 2 octane points to matter. :D

    Would I put 89 in a GT-R?
    Hell no....but I wouldn't spend $90K on a Nissan either.

    I'd buy a Z-06, a ZL-1 or a Gt-500 and get a Prius with the money left over....AND have a sports car with a proper transmission!

    YMMV.... :D

If you aren't worried about money savings... then why are you putting the wrong fuel in your GTR?

Have you ever driven or seen a gtr? I would run Circles around your zr1. There's a reason why it's called Godzilla...

You save $30 as opposed to what exactly ??
You should find a new "car tech".
The one who told you that there is any benefit in using high octane fuel in a Prius is a moron.
Absolute truth. Of course, you don't have to believe it.

And anyone who told you NOT to use "premium" in that other car is an even bigger moron.

I'm beginning to think your whole story is just a troll.

Car Driver called it Godzilla....and yes.
    I read the same article.

    I said Z-06 not ZR-1.
As far as "run circles" around the Vette?
    Naaah.
The GT-R is a phenomenal car to be sure, and it's more capable at some things than a Z-06, but you'd need a proper race course and a set of calipers to quantify a real world difference between the two and we're talking about an apples-oranges comparison, except one thing.
The Corvette is a Chevy dressed up as a supercar.
The GT-R is a Nissan on s similar mission.
I said that I wouldn't spend 90-large on a Nissan....the same as I wouldn't spend a similar amount on the two Chevys or the Ford that I compared it to.

    I've seen and sat in a GT-R.
    Nice car.

If you really have one, you're going to want to become more familiar with what things like pre-detonation will do to a twin-turbocharged, aluminum V6 engine.
Engine knocking - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A 2014 GT-R has a 90K MSRP, which means that in 6-7 years it's going to be worth about $40K if it's properly maintained.
Putting the wrong fuel into a car such as this isn't "properly maintained." :D

    Good Luck!

Perhaps...but it illuminates the confusion surrounding octane ratings and "premium" fuel.
People buy "premium" fuel thinking that there's more energy content in the fuel, or it's BETTER because it costs more, which is true only in one parameter, that being resistance to pre-detonation.

The folks down at the gas station quietly applaud this blind-spot in automotive awareness, and putting premium fuel in a Priussy will not hurt it at all.

However (comma!!!) if you're reading this, and you really have a vehicle that requires 91-octane????
There's a REASON for this, and it's not always related to the MSRP of the vehicle that you're putting the fuel into!!! My VRSC-D, for example, was only $15,000.

THAT's the point that I and several others have tried to make.

    Your car....
    Your call.

    Peace!

This whole thread has gone sideways, do we really need to resort to insults. If you don't own the car who cares what fuel is being used. This is why I only buy new!

WOAH, take it easy easy rider. No need to start calling people morons. First of all I brought up my nissan to make a point about premium fuel, not to be ridiculed by car "geniuses". And if you read car manuals, you would see that they give suggestions for fuel. Both my manuals approve of what I choose to use.

That doesn't mean it is a wise thing to do.

I bet that the GT-R manual "recommends" using premium and I KNOW that the Prius manual doesn't really mention high octane fuel at all......except to state the minimum requirements.

Neither of those things hardly constitutes an "approval".

And note that I did not call YOU a moron........although the temptation is great.

About 95% of Prius Chat is learning how our car REALLY works, so when you spout "the dumbest stuff" we just naturally correct it.
