1* temps here in metro DC today and I'm getting 42.3 MPG!!!!!! STILL FRIGGEN DOUBLE OVER MY LAST SUV!!!!!! I LOVE THIS CAR!
Lower grill block and you may get 2 to 4 mpg's more! Keep in mind tho it always boils down to how you drive it.
Yes the car is great but the cold weather sucks!! Holy mackerel average high temp is supposed to about 52F here in DC today!! Cherry Blossom peak bloom forecast out today is April 9-12 (in 2013 it was fairly late at April 9). April 15-18 is about the record latest date for peak bloom...past that, means we have an Ice Age?
We're getting late in the season, but you can (find lots of LINKs) use foam insulation material to block the air going into your radiator in the winter, to speed heat up. I do not do it but many do. True value of grille blocking? | PriusChat
Agreed. I've never owned an SUV but was chatting with the dealership shuttle driver on the weekend while having my v serviced. He said the dealership shuttle(Sienna van) gets around 13mpg in the local city driving, ouch! Since driving my v for 1.5 years now and seeing winter temps down to -40, heavy city traffic, wide open highways, and everything in between, if I ever see a tank average less than 40mpg i start to worry.
Glad to hear Sienna is so stinky MPG...I wanted to get a Sienna during cash-4-clunkers but it was only rated 19 MPG so it did not qualify for me. So I got a Caravan (Routan variant) rated 20 MPG...but it actually only gets 17 MPG average, and definitely as low as 12-13 if alls you are doing is short local trips...but up to 25 MPG on highway. But we mostly use the Prius.
Our 2012 Prius v gets so much better mileage than our Sienna and it spends a lot of time parked outdoors at temperatures down to -40. Yeah, the mileage drops but it's still in the mid 30s. No complaints from me.
I tried the foam to block the lower air dam and ended up just taping 3 of the 5 vents, and now am getting awesome gas mileage 50-52 on daily commutes. Is blocking the lower air intake just a winter thing or can I do it year round?
Its a winter thing JA4 you don't want to overheat in summer. Spring finally broke out this week, but I still have a snow bank in my front yard from the plow.
