Side Moldings

Well, I guess I spoke too soon on this one. Only had the moldings on for 3 days, and the paint's chipping off on the edges of the moldings (and it's not because of someone banging their door against them). It looks like the PVC underneath is dark colored, so it's not gonna look nice. Hmmm... didn't think I'd be using touch-up paint on the side moldings.

 

Thanks Allen. I agree that they look fantastic! I can't believe that they look custom-fit for the Prius. Bit steep for my pocketbook though! And you know me - I don't want to do something like this that might void my paint-job warranty.

 

I just received side moulding from Metro. Does anyone know a good installer for Orange County California. What is the going rate for installation?

I was anxious too but ended up doing it myself. It is not hard at all. I used a wax pencil, sturdy tape measure, and the blue painter's tape (didn't leave glue residue as the masking tape did). I measured up the prescribed inches on the front and back doors and marked the measurements with a wax pencil. I then taped the end of the tape measure on the edge of the back door, stretched it out along the two marks I had made, then went back with the wax pencil along the tape measure making dashes for my straight line. I used those marks to lay down the blue tape, then followed the instructions that came with the side-molding. the molding is stiff enough that any wave in the tape was obviously inconsequential.

Once my tape measure retracted and left a small scratch that buffed out. If I had wrapped the end in tape even that would not have been a problem.

It's easy.
