Who has done their recall?

    I've been wondering the same thing..., typo? Think he's said those numbers in another thread as well, though.

    We have the 17" low profile tires too. I settled on 36~38 psi range. Yhey seem to ride harsher than the 15", on speedbumps and the like. I tend to set all four tires on the same value, just to avoid inflation hassle when rotating them.

    Yeah...my CT200h wheels with Michelin LRR tires looks GREAT but the ride is not like the OEM 15's with Michelin A/S tires (I still have them in my garage stack up wrapped with giant plastic bags), I tried so many pressure setting 35/35 is too harsh and bumpy to my like, 35/33 same, 34/34 no change, 33/32 comfy but mpg dropped, 33/33 all around with the updated software gain 1-2 mpg, the ride is acceptable.

    Maybe I'm humorless today, but I really don't get the (inside) joke here?

    While I think as far as recalls go, this is a relatively painless one, at it's heart this is a transistor related problem.
    From The Toyota Owners Website:

    " Inside the Hybrid Inverter Assembly is an Intelligent Power Module (IPM) which contains a control board equipped with transistors. Due to software programming in the involved vehicles, certain transistors in the IPM could become damaged when operating the vehicle under high-load driving conditions."

    Since evidently this problem has existed since the introduction of the Gen 3, and reports of problems resulting from this are extremely rare, and my vehicle is relatively new, and I'm not planning on any long term trip, then my concern level is low enough.

    But right now....TOYOTA is telling us all to be concerned about our transistors.

    I'm not offended...I just wasn't getting the joke. Maybe the transistors in my brain need a software update. I know they overheat under heavy load.

    There is nothing we can do with our transistors, so nothing for us to worry about.

    It's not a typo. Just got my Prius in November and it came like that from the dealer. I have no idea why they put too much pressure in the front tires, but now that they are adjusted to the "normal range", my MPG definitely took a hit.

    There's nothing we directly as owners can do....but this whole recall IS about changing the parameters of how the transistors will operate VIA software update. And Toyota would very much like us to worry about this, at least to the point of bringing our vehicles in for the software update.

    When cars are shipped from factory they sometimes have tires all raised to sidewall pressure. And dealership might have missed the fronts. But even sidewall posted pressure is much lower. Yeah, way too high.

    Did mine this morning at Toyota of Hollywood (CA) with an appointment, but no letter yet. Estimated time was 1.25 hours, and I ended up waiting almost two hours. They were busy for a Sunday (no issues with the update). Asked Lily, my service rep, if they'd done many of these updates, and she said they had to do it on all of the cars on the lot that were affected. She said they were called in for a 6 am meeting a few weeks back when it was first announced, so they are taking it seriously.

    No noticeable driving differences on my 20 minute trip home.

    Oh! I agree It's important and the update should be done.
    Other than that there is not anything we can do. That is all I meant.

    I had recall service and have noticed no change in the car. While there I had the motor mount and intake tsb performed too. Again, no real change and no knocking yet!

    my humour is often misunderstood. (or just bad) but if you've had any real challenges in life, (job, health, etc) this is just a blip on the radar.

    If you wonder what the transistors look like, there's a "high tech" article in the Electrical Engineering Times web page. The IGBT (Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor) module shown in the lower left side of the photo and that's what over heats.

    The article goes on to say....

    With the large currents involved throughout the ICU, cooling of power semiconductor devices is paramount. The two sets of power components--both bare direct-mount slices and the TO-packaged parts--are mounted back to back on the metal case of the ICU. Heat transfer is achieved by way of a dedicated liquid cooling loop that runs through the ICU casing and is shared with the two MG assemblies.

    I think the recall will steer back the EV mode and put less stress on the IGBT. I think it might reduce the Mpg. After the recall on my 2012 P2. That's something I plan to monitor.

    No letter yet , called dealer , mine gives in this Tuesday for the recall .. Dealer says
    They have been very busy with this recall

    I asked my service rep that if a customer went in for a routine oil change & refused the update, that would be fine however if their car broke down due to this specific fault then the owner would be 100% responsible for the repairs.

    Short story is if u don't want the update, it risking a lot.

    VS980 4G ?
