Tensions concerning charging stations.

    It's very tempting to write on their window with one of those automotive markers, what the police use to indicate an abandoned vehicle has been checked.

    For just $2 and knowing it won't cause any damage to the vehicle (just their pride), that may be a solution.

    Hmm. What to write?

    That's why there are no charging station in north Jersey, would result in a shooting!

    It looks like I may have been harder on the Tesla driver than I should have been. I went back to the charging station this morning and found that the second EVSE is having problems. In particular I couldn't get the J1772 to unlock, when I ran my card it kept unlocking the door for the 110V instead.

    The Tesla driver shouldn't have unplugged me because that could have gotten me a ticket but at lease the driver can plead ignorance as in "there was an amber light so that means its fully charged" and "what signs?" There were still the two 110V outlets and the Tesla comes with a 110v courtesy charger and there are also at least 14 other chargers within 4 blocks of this site so it's not like unplugging me was the only option.

    I'm still relatively new to owning a Prius Plug-in, but if he unplugs you, does it require tapping the Chargepoint card again for him to start charging, or does it continue charging on your account when he plugs himself in? For free stations this isn't as big of a worry but could become a problem if people start doing that to skip on charging fees. It amazes me that these chargers don't automatically lock themselves to our cars until we tap out or the charge is full.

    You could have unplugged him and left, but it sounds like you decided to be the bigger person there. Good for you.

    hmmm .... So let me get this right .... your PiP's done charging, yet you're holding yourself out as gracious because you didn't key his car? Jeee ... that'd sure make things better. I guess other plugin owners are also lucky that you don't throw a brick through their windshield? .... and I guess plugin owners are also greatful you don't punch out the plugin owners' spouse to teach them a lesson? I mean heck ... why draw the line at simply keying a car when you feel the need to revenge your awesome-ness.
    BTW, and not that it matters in our, "it's all about me" society .... but using L1 - it'd take between 3 & 4 days to charge a Tesla. Considering how little the PIP battery is ....I've often wondered why pip owners don't use ChargePointStations's L1 features .... just say'n

    free charging stations will suffer the tragedy of the commons. We need either a surplus of charging stations and/or an incentive to only use the resource wisely. I suggest a low, reasonable charge per kwh and then an escalating 'Not Charging' Fee. You pay for the power consumed and then have a (growing) incentive to move your car when done. Obviously, this model won't work for long-term parking (like airports), but would have the desired effect. Of course, a Tesla owner could dial the charging waaay back to occupy the spot for longer (for less cost relative to the punative not-charging fee), but overall it might be a good start.

    we have "watt station" Chargers in Irvine and Tustin that work this way ... so if you stay there all day camped in a parking stall pluged in, your card will be charged the whole time regardless of whether its fully charged or not. I'm guessing the only thing that would work at airports' long term charging stalls would be to employ some kind of valet service to move cars In & Out.

    If they half a brain, they would have done the valet service at the upgraded Long Beach airport. Instead they put in Blink stations. So when you travel for 3 days, you get charged $1 an hour for those 3 days. DUMB!

    No you haven't gotten it right. I clearly said my car was not done charging. The big problem was that by disconnecting my car I could have been ticketed.
    I was lucky I got to the car before parking enforcement did.

    That is when someone takes their key (car, home, ect...) and scratches the paint or other surfaces on your vehicle...vandalism.

    Here's a nifty solution that I just read up on - a product build by a fellow who I've met & ridden with of a couple occasions ... a J1772 240V extension cord. It might just reduce some of the OP's tensions that many of us have encountered:

    In fact, if you have basic electrical skills and feel comfortable - you COULD even build your own.

    A product originally built for Teslas ... but then Toyota RAV4-EV folks started making them up. Imagine the following ... your charge spot is either blocked by a numb skull plugin that's done charging or the spot is simply ICE'd. What ever reason - you can't reach the plug. Whip out your J1772 240V extension and viola. You may then be able to reach the spot successfully. It's certainly a much more important accessory for Plugin folks who absolutely positively depend on access - much more then the PiP's small charge. You never know ... there may soon be creative folks building big aftermarket packs to supplement the PiP's small pack.

    Now for all you devious PiP'ers out there ... I hope no one will park BEHIND that ICE in the charge stall ... hooking up your 240v extension cord ... then leaving your phone # on the ICE and watching them gleefully from a remote spot as they sheepishly have to call you to unblock their ICE. ;)

    Can someone explain to me how much money does it cost me to use ChargePoint station?
    Is this one time fee (I believe it is $25.00) and I pay whatever the owner of ChargePoint decides that use of his charge station should be for time I am plugged in?

    Say, I open up the account with ChargePoint, pay $25 for their service and I use only $ 5 for charging of my vehicle for this month. Since Charging station owner chargeed for his service $ 5 now I owe to ChargePoint that much money. So, they ding my cc $5 so that I have $25 of credit on my charge point account. do I still have to pay recurring monthly credit card charges to ChargePoint even if I do not use it next moth?

    You only have to pay CP for EV charges - no recurring fees. I've paid nothing more than the $25 so far.
