I heard it was possible in order to get a smoother ride you can put 2006 toyota prius touring suspension into a 2005 model without any modifications , is this true or .....can anyone please help with this one

I don't kn0w if you would consider the "Touring" version to be smoother riding than the non touring. My understanding is that the suspension is actually firmer and tuned more for feel of the road so to speak. I haven't driven a touring model, so I cannot speak from personal experience. But everything I have read leads me to believe that the ride would not be smoother than the non touring models.

FWIW, anything is possible if you have enough money to spend on it. The real question is "Is it worth the cost thereof?" It would be more logical to purchase a touring model than try to convert a non touring into touring.

I appreciate your input I'm just feeling every bump in the road ....just got my first prius ,,, traded a guy in the bay area for my 2000 toyota tundra straight across ... single owned 2005 with 155,000.00 miles maybe I should just go with stock , I just heard somewhere in a prius chat fourms about using the touring version in the non for a smoother ride maybe it's just preference...thanks for the help

If you replace the front struts and rear shocks, I believe you will feel a reasonable improvement.

Prius's ride rather harsh imho. If its your only car you may not notice it after a while but if you bounce between different cars like I do the Prius hits hard. Tight little car. Short wheelbase. Tiny little suspension parts up front. Not alot of mass up front.

The Prius is all tire. Make sure your not running the original type of tire that came with the car the GoodYear Integrities which are possibly one of the worst tires ever made. They hit hard and ride loud. If your running those get them off asap and the ride will improve 100%. I have good luck with non lrr Kumho's.

If your looking for more ride comfort more than hyper mileage replace them with a non LRR tire like I have. Sidewalls are softer. You will take a 3 mpg hit but so what. Your saving the suspension. And the hyperinflation of the tires for better mileage makes the tires hit much harder and will pass all jounce and impact right to the chassis. Struts take a beating and so will the rest of the car.
To save what?.......$100 a year? My car has no squeeks, rattles, clunks.

And lastly deflate the new tires a little. Try running them at 34-33 pounds or at door placard
    pressure.

Also Touring suspension is tighter than stock. Forget that.

The touring model wasn't available until 2007

Yes, it is possible and I did it with my Ema. My wife had a 2007 Touring and it rode noticeably better than Ema. Part of that may have been the 16" tires on the Touring but part of it was suspension. When Ema needed new suspension I upgraded her and have not been disappointed. Here is an old old list of mine for parts. Not sure how many of these part#'s are still good but somone (Patrick) may be able to help with that.

    Prius Suspension Upgrade

To recap your research and Sigma Automotive's confirmation:

    1. For the 2006 - 2009 Prius, the following suspension parts are different on the Touring from the Standard Prius:

    a. Front Stabilizer Bar (Part# 48811-47050 at $79.06, Qty. 1)
    b. Rear Stabilizer Bar (Part# 48812-47020 at $51.85, Qty. 1)
    c. Rear Shocks (Part# 48530-49735 at $93.92/each, Qty. 2)
    d. Rear Springs (Part# 48231-47091 at $43.13/each, Qty. 2)

    2. For the 2006 -2009 Prius, the Front Struts and Springs are the same on the Standard Prius as on the Touring.

    a. Front Right Strut (Part# 48510-80274 at $99.07, Qty. 1)
    b. Front Left Strut (Part# 48520-80064 at $91.14, Qty. 1)
    c. Front Springs (Part# 48131-1N550 at $41.28/each, Qty. 2)

    Good luck and happy driving,
    Chris

Just got Front strut bar and new front struts. Springs were $150 from Dealer so I got them as well.
Front Strut bar was: Tanabe TTB151F Sustec Front Tower Bar ($100)

It rides so nice and smooth! Very happy.
