I've got less than 1000 miles on this Prius v. Have been noticing some bad distortion in the windshield. Took time today to inspect it. It's so wavy especially when looking toward passenger side but actually all the way across, all over - top bottom, corners., every bit of it. But it's worse depending on where you're looking. This has got to be some of the worst glass ever produced for a vehicle. Does anyone else notice this problem? Now that I detected it, it's so distracting when driving. I can't say it's like dizzy-inducing. But wavy, absolutely. Annoying, yes.
A little more info. It's a 2013 v. If I sort of blur my eyes slightly and focus in front of and not through the windshield, it almost looks like diagonal lines going across the window or like I'm seeing I don't know what, almost like film would be over a window. Very weird and not normal for any vehicle I've owned. If I sit in the passenger seat and look dead on, it's not too horrible and isn't as visible. But if I look at the same spot on the opposite side, it's the exact same wavy/distortions. When in drivers seat looking dead on, it's like the passenger seat dead on. Some of the issue goes away when looking directly ahead until looking out and across the window from either seat. So clearly it's something to do w the way this windshield has been manufactured. One vote already for not having this problem. Am I just lucky and got a junk windshield? Does this relate to the tri-glare from oncoming lights I just discovered in google?
Could be some sort of coating on the glass. A good scrub with a decent solvent might be in order. Mine is just fine.
there are a couple threads about this on the liftback. major problems and only solution was to have windshield replaced. make sure you understand the conditions so you can recreate them when at the dealer.
Look back in the archives. I seem to remember reading about some windshield problems reported. Not sure if the windshields broke later or not, but there was some mention of stress fracturing. I think the postings were earlier in 2013.
Thanks for the replies. My dad's Honda van is exactly the same. And I saw a Lexus also the same. I guess it's just normal and I didnt explain the issue properly. I'm just not going to worry about it.
I had waves in my 2012 v2 ...and fortunately or unfortunately got a stone chip right along a pillar....split across half way while I was at work .... Now I got new glass which seems fine
