We recently purchased a 2012 Prius v three from a local dealer. The car, listed as certified pre-owned, has 8000 miles on it and still has about 2 years and 6 Months remaining in the original basic warranty. The dealer offered a price near $1950 for an extended warranty (Platinum plan with zero deductible) which would extend the coverage up to 7 more years. Is the aforementioned price reasonable? Any other third party could offer a better price? In addition, we also consider adding heated front seats and would like to know what would be the reasonable price of such upgrade in "dealer-quality" (and where to get it from a third party) ? Please advice. Yours assistance will be very much appreciated. Thanks.

No $1950 is not good. Probably less than $1200 from another Toyota dealer. One big IF; if the current mileage is under 36k. Toyota will sell the Platinum extended warranty only while the standard factory warranty is still in effect.

Understand the 7 year "extended" is actually 7 years from new. Most people will exceed the extended warranty mileage (typically 125k miles) before 2019 anyway.

Thanks for your prompt reply to my question. It helps.

My other question regarding the price of installing leather seats and heated front seats, is $1500 reasonable?

I don't know if any Priuschat member has ever come out ahead after buying the extended warranty. Just keep the money in the bank.

Have you read the exclusions in the policy? Consumer Reports says these type of warranties pay out 30% in repairs keeping 70% for admin, sales bonuses, and profit.

I had the same Softex upholstery kit that the distributor would have installed (came with distributor part number) put into my v 3 and I think I could have gotten the heated seats put in as a distributor kit but didn't want them. Sorry, I don't have a separate price as it was bundled into the deal.

I had the 7 year, 100,000 no deductible policy, after 96,000 miles they had to replace the gas tank and all associated gas lines plus the water pump, no charge. I paid $960 for my policy in 2007, it saved me money.
