After I got my car I ran it's tank down to one bar on the fuel guage, aired the tires to 40-38, installed a lower grill block, then filled up and started paying attention. I just refueled, at the same gas station & pump. I had reset trip A at the previous fill up & it now showed 534.9 miles, 70MPG, 38MPH. The pump read 7.62 gallons. My calculator says I got 70.19 MPG. This is during a very cold spell but my car is garaged (unheated) and I've been able to make many short trips in pure EV mode. The car reported that I used 15% EV mode. If I simply multiply the gas used by 1.15 to convert all the EV miles to gas miles it's still a quite respectable, especially for winter, 61MPG. I haven't calibrated the odometer but the computer is doing a fine job of estimating fuel use rate, much better than the 5-7% optimism I see in mentioned in other posts. I hope it continues and wasn't due to 'under filling' on this particular tankfull.
i think you're dead on. depending on your climate, geography, type of driving and etc., 60, 70 and 80 mpg are eminently achievable in the pip.
Hi Jerry retired4999 is being modest and encouraging. He is the champion of gas savers with the PIP. I am working on my fifth tank (just starting) in two years. Granted, my car is not high mileage, but my fourth tank averaged 168 mpg. I am starting my fifth tank at only 95 mpg but it will likely improve. You are doing fine. Keep it up. Allan
