When I attempted to engage the EV today, coasting up to a long red light, a banner appeared at the top of the MFD that left me know it couldn't be enabled (I guess it was still in the warm-up mode). Do the 2004 and 2005 models say that too? I don't remember ever hearing someone mention it.
I take the above quote to mean the 04's and 05's don't. The U.S. '06 does: [Broken External Image]:http://mysite.verizon.net/res0ot4f/Art/PriusMFD/100_0963.jpg
That makes sense. I guess it's only on the hi-res displays which come on packages with the (NTSC) backup camera.
Us 2006 owners have other problems to deal with, like not knowing how to defeat the nav lockout and other function lockouts... So count your blessings. - Bob R.
You can do the same overrides us '04 owners did for the first 2 years we had the car before the secret overide was found. There are 2 speed sensor wires right behind the vent to the right of the MFD... Just divide those, add a switch and you can override BT or NAV whenever you want. Also, you've got the voice direction entry we didn't have so it has a sort of built in, albeit clumbsy, override.
I am not the slightest bit envious of the '06 owners: They have some cool stuff we don't, but we've had two years driving the coolest car in the universe, during which time they were driving anachronistic gas-guzzlers. Of course, if you like the '06 enough you could trade up to one. Probably wouldn't cost all that much with the demand for Priuses being strong. The main thing I'd like from the '06 is the backup camera. (My sister's $75,000 Lexus has one.) But I think the CANview has a video input, so once I have that installed I may add a backup camera.
