I know we are veering off-topic, but my next post will address the blind spot issue.

Don't know anything about blind spot mirrors, but since you asked, I'd like to share something I learned in a Bob Bondurant driving school oh-so-many years ago, and reinforced again when I took vehicle evasion tactics training as part of executive protection. There is a way to eliminate your blind spots using your existing mirrors. Over the years I've banged my head against the wall trying to explain this technique to people so totally fixated on they way they were taught that they were completely unwilling to try something "new" and "so radical" like this. I'd mostly given up trying, resigning myself to the fact that people would continue to duplicate what they see in the rear view mirrors with their side view mirrors, just from different angles, and sometimes getting in collisions as a result.

Then, a ray of Hope! After ten years of suggesting now and then, I actually talked my wife into trying this technique. She says it took her about a month or so to get used to it, but she says she will never change back!

Here are some of the many links I have found explaining this technique. No Blind Spot Mirrors needed! Once you get used to it, you will never go back, I promise you!

One of the articles even says that most people freak out when they first look through properly adjusted side mirrors. LOL!

Like I said, just because everybody is doing something wrong, it doesn’t mean you and I have to as well. I could pile on twenty more articles just like the ones above. Give this a try and get back to me in a month!

I had done this for a while but I went back to the standard way.

This has a couple of issues:

    1) When doing curb side parking, it is hard to gauge the distance between the car and the curb without a view of the car against the curb, and you might end up curbing the wheels.

    2) If the mirror gets bumped when car is parked, it is not immediately obvious that it is out of position and if you rely on it, you could miss something in the blind spot.

I went back to the old fashion way, and turning my head to check the blind spots.

I've been parallel parking so long I could probably do it in my sleep, so #1 is not an issue for me. Proper procedure gets me within six inches every time, no curbing involved! I drove a stretch limo in San Francisco of all places for eight years, so maneuvering and parking a regular vehicle is a piece of cake!

#2, however, to quote Meg Ryan in Joe Versus the Volcano: I have no response to that. Wait. I do have a response. I check my mirror adjustments each time I hop in the car, probably for two reasons. One, I have a wife who drives our cars too. Two, I'm used to hopping in company vehicles all the time that another person has recently driven, so it is habit for me to always check and adjust my mirrors before heading off. I guess I can understand your problem if you are the only driver of your vehicle!

On my 2012 PiP, the DRLs come on with the parking brake still on.

Can I access the red wire from just under the hood or will I have to temove the bumper? Also, if it IS accessible just under the hood, can you take a picture of the full engine compartment with arrows pointing to where the wire would be and where the fuse is that the wire is to be ran to?

I have jumped the wire to the same fuse tab (inverter/ converter) location with added 7.5A. After starting the car, i am getting the error message to check hybrid system and park the car in a safe place. After a few power up and down and switch display on screen, the error message has gone away. Not sure if this is normal but i couldn't the same message anymore.

Any unexpected grounding and current fluctuations when working in and tapping into fuses can cause that check hybrid system error.

As you found out, a couple of shutdown/start cycles will clear the error condition.

Ok. That make me feel a lot better. My car is only 1week old 2014.

FYI, the pictures provided were not exactly the same on 2014 model. So please be careful when jumping the drl wire. It's the red wire I jumped to make drl running after powering up the car.

Actually... After i tab in to the fuse box and running a separate circuit to the drl, I think I should just remove the original drl fuse. I think it should be fine.

Um, you might want to double-check that you are still wired into the "fused" side of a fuse in the fuse block so that you still have the protection of a fuse blowing if your new wiring creates a dead short. I wired to the battery side of the fuse in an old 1964 Valiant, and when the short to ground finally occurred , the entire wiring harness section with that wire in it melted and burned. I had to rewire the car which was just barely possible with that vehicle, and I would never, ever want to do it with a Prius!

When the car is in park press setup, vehicle, and then in the options scroll all the way down there will be Daytime Running Lights at the very end, selct that then press on.

Can you better explain Pic # 2 and 3#. I have a prius that I want the daylight running lights to run with headlights on. I am confused about Pic #2. Do I need to buy wiring? Pic# 3 is attached to what?.
    Thanks for your help.

    Thanks, Fr

I have the mirrors adjusted to cover the blind spots, but I use the stick on, convex mirrors so I can see the curb or stall markings when reversing into parking stalls. So basically opposite of everyone else who use the blind spot mirrors for blind spot coverage and side mirrors for whatever reason.

Thank you so much! I was going crazy trying to figure out why my DRLs would not come on. I have the DRL position on my light switch, and I've seen other Prii with the DRLs working. I pulled my fuse, and all was fine. After accomplishing this "programming" step, they operate just as they should.

If I get a 2012 Prius Three, can I just keep the normal lights on ON always? So when I turn the car on the lights will come on and when I turn the car off the lights will auto-off after 30s? Also, if I do this will the car chime when I turn it off since it thinks I should turn the lights off (like most cars I've driven)?

Yes. That is how mine (also a 2012 Prius Three) works when I don't switch it to DRL for daytime. The auto-off is configurable, 0/30/60/90 seconds.
No headlight chime, because it isn't needed.

But be sure not to absentmindedly turn the lights off when shutting down, then remember and turn them back on to set it up for the next trip. This can override the auto-off, and drain the 12V battery.
