What are you guys using to clean the fingerprints and such from your MFD screen? I picked up a 3M microfiber lens-cleaning cloth. I don't know how long I'll care about being able to see fingerprints on the screen, but for now the microfiber cloth seems like a good "dry" solution.
I use the microfiber sack that my Oakley glasses came in. Works great at pulling the fingerprints off, non-abrasive, etc. Does a fab job wiping the dust off of the sound system front also.
yeah, there are all sorts of soft fabric clothess available at car washes and those sorts of places. i notice that the material on the sound system and the top of the cup holder tend to get dusty very quick. also i'm aching to clean the digital dispaly in my dash...arrr dust!
I picked up a lens cloth for eyeglasses. All I can tell you is that it is blue, doesn't need any spray cleaner and works like a dream. I also use it to clean the fingerprints and dust from the the stereo, the little compartment below the stereo, the buttons around the MFD, and the cup holder covers. B)
Actually... after 10,000 miles or so, you won't even notice that it's dirty! No kidding. I obsessed over cleaning it all the time too at one point. Now, I could not even guess when was the last time I swabbed it down!
MFD..........MicroFiber cloth Dash.........Swiffer duster smudges....Mr. Clean Magic Eraser I found with doing the dash with a MicroFiber cloth that it seemed to get an electrical charge that attracted even more dust. Swiffer just seems to pick it up but not "recharge" it. I use the Swiffer on all the plastic trim on the car. I got one of the long handled ones and will even do it at a traffic light. You think people look at your car, you ought to see the look that gets. No I'm not OC, just hate waiting for traffic lights when I could spend my time doing something.
Like gilahiker, I use a little blue cloth meant for eyeglasses. It even came in a nice little case. It's very soft and smooth, and works great. I keep it in the cup holder, but like priusham said, we probably won't notice it after 10 K miles or so!
DO NOT use Armorall to clean the mfd screen, ever. I have been warned by another Prius owner against doing so. I use a microfiber cloth to clean mine when the fingerprints become noticeable.
Same here... I use the cloth my sunglasses came with. At the suggestion of Windstrings, I also use the Swifter on the dash, etc
I keep accidentally resetting my trip mileage in the bar mpg chart screen whenever I clean the screen. aaargh!!
Walmart has some Windex cloths that are pre wet the did nice on the screen and the dash like $2.00 + for a package of them
What ever I'm wearing and a little spit... I put on a screen protector so that I can clean it with whatever. Those smudgy prints really obscure the screen when the sun is on it. At that point, I just want to clear off the latest smudges asap.
I think you had better check the use of Windex as I do believe it has amonia as a cleaning ingredient. Amonia is not recomended for touch screens or LED screens. Could be wrong check it out. Wildkow
I use fine #00 sandpaper. No, wait, my mistake. It's a microfiber cloth from Costco. $10 for 20 cloths.
I too use a microfiber cloth. After I wash the car and dry it with the microfiber cloth, I wring it out good and go over the interior hard surfaces – no chemicals, just a slightly damp microfiber cloth. 1.5 years later, everything still looks new.
I think the better question to ask is, "What have you done to protect your MFD?" Although I agree with most everyone here that a standard optical wipe/cloth will work in cleaning it, however, it won't stop potential scratches, etc. I opted for a screen protector (similar to a PDA protector). Sigma Automotive has an extensive list of Prius accessories and imports them in from Toyota of Japan and Toyota of Canada. I bought their screen protector and it fit like a glove. It is UV protected and can be removed and hand washed in soapy water (in case you smudge it with something). For $16 you can't beat the peace of mind. You can find it at their website, http://www.sigmaautomotive.com/jdm/prius/prius0405.php Fish on...
