As stated - thanks for your time and posting. As you already know, everyone with an '06 is extremely interested in this development. Anything that you can do to help the greater '06 Prius community is certainly appreciated.

I actually live close to Irvine and my wife works in Irvine. We both have the same build month (1/06) and I would be happy to help decipher this to see if we can 'crack the code'.

Unfortunately, I have no idea where to start. I don't believe that blindly adjusting settings in the hidden diag/advanced settings screens isn't the best way to approach this. I may end up with more disabled than Nav and Bluetooth, if you know what I mean.

    Any thoughts/suggestions?

Mo worries. That would have been my question to a newbie too. If there is anything else I can provide, please don't hesitate to ask.

My best guess is, Some "Tech" at your Dealership set it this way. There is no way that car got though Toyota's Plant, Port and quality inspections, without that being noticed. Doubt it, especially since you are the only case we've heard of. Also, according to the Pre-Delivery sheet provided, this is why the "Tech" test drives the vehicle a few miles before delivery. To inspect "All instrument panels, lights, gauges, and MFD" to make sure they perform to Toyota specs/ if you look at your delivery sheet, someone had to put a "check" in that box as being inspected at the dealership.
To me this is all good news. Somebody knows something! I'm in Okla., so I can meet you and MJ-Prius at the dealership and get some answers!! :D :D

Ask the dealership to see the "Tech" that inspected your Prius before delivery, he's our guy I'm bettin'.

    So Fred,
Have you been able to find out anymore info reguarding your car? I'm sure I'm not the only one with their fingers crossed.

I brought my car in today because it had the smell of antifreeze after driving it home. The engine also seemed to be very rough when coming to a stop. I told them to check the electrical system to make sure it was okay. I hesitated to tell them about the system being active while driving but I thought it would be best.

When I got the car back they told me everything was normal and that the electrical system was operating properly. I started out of the driveway and checked to see if the system was active while driving. Low and behold, everything turned gray when accelerating past 1 mph. Now I know what you guys are talking about. This sucks.

I drove back and asked them what they did. They claimed over and over that nothing was done and that was the way it was when I brought it in. Now I know I am not crazy, well not totally crazy, but they would not waiver on their conviction. I asked to speak to the technician that worked on the car but did not get what I wanted. In the end, I left a dejected man. I am going to make a few phone calls to see if I can find out who worked on the car before I give up. Maybe they did something on purpose. Maybe there was a loose wire or something else that was causing it work the way it was. I will find out.

Fred - That really sucks. Sorry to hear about that.

Sort of reminds me of Bicentennial Man (at least the movie version) where a guy has to take his robot (which had accidentally become self-aware and highly intelligent) in for repairs, and he had his lawyers threaten the corporation with a lawsuit if they dared "fix" anything they weren't supposed to...

Anyone have ideas on how we can compare the configuration of this ’06 Prius with other ’06’s? My build date is 1/06 and I can say that I don’t have these features active while driving. Unless this is a configuration change made in the last month, my guess is that we can find something to enable this type of configuration on all ‘06’s if desired.

It might be useful to know the firmware versions of your '06'. These can be found using the diagnostics/service screens (instructions to get to these on another post).

I have an '06' with build date of 11/05
    In the product diagnosis menu, I can display the following for SW versions;

    Power Supply Microcomp: V3.03
    Drawing Application: VA0E3
    Drawing Boot Loader: V5314
    TFT Microcomp.: V000126
    SW Microcomp.: V000007

Yes... I can provide pictures if you need them, but hopefully this text should do:

    1. Press and hold the "Info" button on your MFD.

    2. While still holding the Info button, turn your headlights on and off three times.

    3. The "System Check Mode" screen will appear.

    4. On the System Check Mode screen, press Menu.

    5. The "Diagnosis Menu" screen will appear.

This is where it gets a bit tricky...

    6. On the Diagnosis Menu screen, touch the upper left corner of the white background (just below the word "Diagnosis"), remove your finger, and then touch the lower right-hand corner of the screen. This gets you into the secret-menu-within-a-secret menu...

    7. You should now see the "Product Diagnosis Menu".

    8. From the Product Diagnosis Menu, press "Soft Version". You will now see the details about the software in your system.

Here are the ones from our car, build date 11/05:

    Power Supply Microcomp. V3.03
    CAN Microcomp.
    Drawing Application VA0E3
    Drawing Boot Loader V5314
    TFT Microcomp V000126
    SW Microcomp V000007

PS... To exit from all these menus, press and hold the "Display" switch on your MFD for about 5 seconds and the display will reboot.

Sorry to reply to this so late into this topic, but my '05 doesn't delete currently typed data, it just hides it from you. Next time you stop, it will all pop up again. this assumes, of course, that you can stand to not hit any "Info" or "Map" buttons between the two stops!

OK, if all that worked for you, now you can also fetch the info about your NAV system... The first 5 steps are identical:

Now, from the "Diagnosis Menu", click on "Navigation Check". Then, from the navigation menu, click "Parts Information".

Here's the Nav info from our 11/05 Prius:

    Navi Information
    AISIN AW
    V314100B

    denso
    V 05.03.14

I have all of the same information (Navi and Soft Version), except for the following Navi component:

    Navi Information
    AISIN AW
    V3144100C (instead of "B")

    My build date is 01/06.

    Hope this helps...

Fred, at least you know for sure now that you're Prius is completely normal and it wasn't some failed component that allowed you to access the features while driving.

Chances are they don't know what they did since they probably reset the system and everything returned to defaults.

That is hilarious OU!! I will tell you that I didn't know how good I had it until I didn't have it any more. I am typically on my phone the whole way home making work calls. I find myself pressing those gray buttons pretty hard trying to make them come to life.

In any case, I will check my versions on the system this weekend and report back to the group.
