I have the "Android" application "Torque" running on a Galaxy tablet that sits on the lower shelf of the center console. Today on a 80 mile round trip over rather hilly (Kentucky) 55 MPH roads I used cruise control on the longer downhills with several "tap ups" to about 60 at the bottoms then gradual manual slowing on the climbs so that I crested the hills at typically 50. I noticed on several of the steeper down hill runs that the ICE hp reported through 'Torque" became negative. I was in ECO,HV mode and had about 4 miles of EV range showing so there was plenty of battery left to store excess energy in. Why would the ICE produce negative 2 or 3 hp? Also, FWIW, I have a full lower grill block and the outside temp was 12-18f and coolant temp reached a peak of 195f, which kinda surprised me with the coold OAT.

I think it is the power needed to keep ICE running without using gas - MG1 keeps it around 1,000 rpm.

Hmmmn... Does MG1 as well as Engine braking always spin the ICE crank shaft in the 'drive/running' direction?
I'm guessing the answer is a duh, yes, but I gotta ask.
