I was shopping for a used prius plug in online earlier... I found a 2012 advanced model with 18K miles listed for $28,000. I was wondering how this compares to prices for an equivalent car that is not used. I do not live in a state that currently offers the plug in model. I had wanted to wait for the next generation Prius plug in, but am thinking that will not be out for about a year or so. My current prius is a 2007 model with 160,000 miles.... time for it to go .... Any input greatly appreciated.
Do you only want the advanced model? After rebates the standard model can be had NEW for around 23k. See posts from Dianne Whitmire on this forum.
If you can't get them new in your state or an adjoining one, that seems like a good price for an Advanced. Especially since it should have standard features that are now options.
The best deal I have seen is a NEW2014 PRIUS PLUG IN STANDARD for $26,999 befor tax and license with Toyota $ 2,000 cash back added to reduce the cost Several dealerships in Southern California are just a few hundred higher
Seems like a good price. Most Prius owners aren't opposed to purchasing used, even with many more miles and age. I have a 2012 Plug In Advance. Great list of options whether you would want them or not. Good luck in your decision.
I agree, Dianne is shipping me a 2014 Plug in Prius as we speak. The car is not available here either and with the current deals she is running AND the Fed tax credit it was the same cost as a Regular Prius 2 or 3 model locally. Also shipping was a lot less than I expected. I thought it was not feasible to buy a car in California and have it shipped to Wisconsin, but I was wrong. Everything went rather smooth so far…….
Just to be crystal clear, you don't get the $2,500 fed tax credit if you buy used. I would shop around a bit more, because some prior threads have indicated pretty steep depreciation for the PIPs. Of course, that was when Toyota was doing $6,500 rebates, so prices may have improved a bit.
I bought new because the price people were asking for used was almost as much as new. I'm all for buying used but if the difference is $1-3k I'll buy new. I paid $35k OTD for my 2014 Advanced PIP. After rebates and before taxes/registration it is about $29k.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that price is including the Cali rebate. So it would be a bit higher.
Ha! I bought my first Leaf in CA and shipped it to WI, then I bought my PiP in NJ and shipped it to WI! We don't [didn't] get any of the cool cars here... Didn't set foot in either dealership, and they were the two best car-buying experiences I've had.
Same as if in California. The buyer submits docs for proof of residence and the dealership charges the DMV and sales tax for where the buyer lives.
Well, here in Wisconsin, all I have to do is take the sale paper work to the DMV, that will be sent to me in about a week after the car arrives, then fill out the title paperwork, pay the taxes, then it will be registered. I am sure most states would be the same. Pretty simple really…..
I know that this it true, at least in my recent shopping experience, usually only in adjacent states sales. Dealerships are set up for sales to people in boarding states and can handle all the DMV and Tax like they would normally. But because I am so far away , all dealerships I talked to just wanted me to handle DMV Part. No big deal really though….
I have to tell you it was the easiest buying experience so far for me too. Also between the price and federal rebates, I could not pass up buying the Plug-in Prius. Heck , it was cheaper to do this, including shipping, than a regular Prius 3 here locally. I see you also have a Plug-in and live in the same town! How do you like the car so far ? , Oh, I also almost bought a Leaf 3 years ago, but bought 2, 2011 Prius cars instead.
My issue is I would like the sales tax rolled into the financing. If I do myself then I would have to front the 2K or so at purchase.
I doubt it. Federal and state rebates are under budget pressures, and the rebate from Toyota was essentially because they under-advertised the cars and were stuck with unsold inventory. Now they have both word of mouth and more advertising to get the sales target they want.
