I have been driving alot in my new Prius and recently threw out my back (disk slippage). No way to prove this was a result of the car seat/driving, but what are your thoughts of the Prius seats? Supportive? I need to buy some special back support pillows thanks jason
I agree that the seats are not very supportive in my '06. I'm looking for some booster/support pillows as well for long road trips. Justinc
Some have no problems with the seats (myself included) while others are in pain. Some have added lumbar pillows (I saw some at a dealer) and some have replaced the seats themselves with more comfortable ones. That causes problems with the side airbags (the ones in the seats) but a resistor is used to correct that. When asked if they have a problem with removing airbags, they said the odds of the side airbags going off is so remote they'd prefer that to the pain.
This is a surprising failure for Toyota. They have made many first class seats. Our 88 Camry seats were endorsed by some back support institute and I have to say, they were great on long trips. The new Tacoma and even the Corolla S seats beat the Prius. I have a lower back disk that is troublesome and driving the Prius is hurting me after 30 minutes. I put up a post for solutions, but haven't heard of a good one short of replacement, so I'm looking at Corbeau and Recarro and other Toyota seats that fit.
I have posted before that I have had good luck with memory foam or tempurpedic pillow (latter more expensive brand name). I am assuming they make seat backs/bolsters as well. In listening to people on this board it seems like memory foam works best for shorter trips or if you aren't too heavy - - the foam comforms to your body in response to heat. Its worked fine for me but I have heard others complain that it gets too flat over time. Anyway, memory foam is going to be way cheaper than a new seat so might be worth trying first. Good luck!
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(gqscientist @ Feb 28 2006, 04:46 PM) </div> I am so unhappy with the seat of my 2007, which I bought last week, and it is making me unhappy with the car. I love the way the car drives, but why must the seats be such a source of discomfort and even pain?
