I have a 2013 Prius 2. When saving mp3s to a usb thumbdrive or cd, do I need to use folders for albums, or can the Prius read the ID tags of the mp3s and sort the songs into albums, artists, etc.?
My experience has been odd with it, but you should be on an Entune system and that is different than my older 2011 system with NAV/XM/Bluetooth/CD Changer. I have track numbers in each track name, but it does not put the tracks in order at all. It does seem to sort things my album ok. I personally do also put each artist in their own directory and each album in a sub directory of the artist to make my life easier. iPad ?
Entune has many sorting options for you to use. However, they are not always foolproof. One of my audiobooks is read out of order no matter what I do. Changing file names or using ID3 tags didn't help. Oddly enough having Entune view by artist put it in order but then it put everything on the thumb drive from the artist in the playlist. In short, use folders. Turn off signatures in Tapatalk Tapatalk
See this post for more information about file sorting. The way it works is annoying. Playlists on USB thumb drives | Page 2 | PriusChat To answer your original question directly, yes, use folders for your album/playlist. It will read the ID3 tag for the title and artist for display only.
