3 weeks ago, I purchased a 2014 Prius model 4 and had a remote starter installed at the dealer. So far, the car has been at the dealer 3 times and they cannot figure out why the remote start will not work. When you press the lock button twice then the 3rd time for 3 seconds, the lights flash and you can watch as the dash lights begin to come on, then everything shuts down. The dealer contacted Toyota because this is all a warranty issue and was instructed to reprogram the computer which they did. After doing so they received an error code that a door, hood or trunk was open, but none were. They checked all the door, hood and trunk latch electronics and all were fine. Personally, I feel I must have received a faulty remote starter, but Toyota so far seems unwilling to replace it. I paid 500 bucks with install for this device not to work and am getting frustrated running back and forth to the dealer which is about an hour away from me. Anyone else have any issue like this they could provide some insight with?

    Thanks!!!

It was 40 degrees over the weekend and it still wouldn't start and it wouldn't start in Toyota's shop.

I talked to their service department today and I have another appointment on Tuesday for them to run a test on the actual remote starter box as instructed by Toyota. Hoping the 4th time is a charm, but I won't be surprised if it still doesn't work.

I have a 2013 Prius III and I had the Toyota remote starter installed after I purchased the vehicle in May 2013. It was around 10F in NJ recently and the remote starter worked fine for me. The lock button pressing is kind of annoying but once you know the pattern, it has worked fine for me ever since the install. Your issue does seem to be an install issue and I am not sure why the dealership will not fix this for you. If they do not fix it, you should open a case with Toyota Customer Service..their 1-800 number is easily searchable...then they will contact the dealership AND regional manager on your behalf to (try to) remedy the situation. Hopefully, it will not come to this and it will be fixed on Tuesday for you. Please keep us updated!

Update: took my Prius to the dealer on Saturday. They have no idea what the problem is, so they kept the car and will be contacting Toyota today to see what they have to offer for a solution to this issue.

Final Update: Got a call from the Toyota dealer today and my car is fixed and the remote starter is now working. The problem was with a poor pin fit in the instrument panel junction box. The pin was repaired and now it works great. Took 4 trips to get it fixed, but it's finally done.

Do you have a number for Toyota customer service? I have a 2014 Prius with the same problem with the remote start. The dealer is blaming it on a lack of software upgrade from Directed Electronics. Mine has the exact same symptoms you described! Any help would be appreciated!
