It was the FT1 reveal. Very lame. Not even the NS4 final version or Gen 4 :(

It was kind of lame how they even said "Toyota played it safe" - that turned me off lol. Ahh well, onto the next show in Feb. I guess I wouldn't be surprised if Gen 4 was later in the year? They need some breathing room for the 2014 Gen 3....

I wouldn't be surprised if 4th Gen Prius is revealed a year from now at NAIAS.

There was Bugatti Veyron Grandsport at the Silicon Valley Auto Show yesterday, 2 million dollar car. Just behind it was a loaded Tesla Model S. Honestly, the Model S looked very much the part among the other exotic cars, Porsche 959, Lamborghini's, etc...

**but** - If you read a couple posts back someone has talked to a Toyota rep in Silicon Valley mentioning that the Gen IV will in fact be unveiled at one of these shows this year. Anyone know the release date after unveiling? I don't think it took Gen III too long to get to market?

If it is revealed during one of the auto shows during the spring, I think it will be on sale from the late autumn , like next year models usually are.

I read this again :O And maybe it's a bit literal. But "announcement" or unveiling? lol

They can "announce" the gen iv all they want, they already have in fact. They can even announce it'll be out 2016 ... :p

Well, all the "buzz" on the Internet regarding the International auto show is about Ford, Chevy, Chrysler, Acura, Cadillac, VW, Porsche, and the Supra concept car, which is exciting, but I cannot imagine the design going into production. The "exciting" 2012 NS4 has not made it yet into production.

The more that I read about the G4 Prius, the more I am convinced that no one has any idea, except possibly Diane .... she alluded to having some personal knowledge. So many contributors to the thread have talked about 10% increase in fuel efficiency; new battery chemistry; AWD; increased EV mileage; larger, lighter, cheaper; ...... I think we are all just hoping and wishing.

Two theories have been suggested about Toyota's G4 release strategy. I do not sustain either: 1) - Toyota does not want to hinder sales of the model year 2014 Prius, and 2) Toyota does not want to deflect media excitement of the Supra concept vehicle with Prius talk.

The Product Specialist said there will be an all new Prius 'by next year' IIRC. He did say another big auto show is in April, not June.

I believe even president of Toyota USA himself talked about the Gen IV like 4 months back. That's when they officially confirmed there was a gen iv and that they would continue the 10% increase in mpg bringing it up to 55 mpg. They even discussed a little bit of how with an improved more efficient lighter engine.

It's crazy how long it's taken for this roll out. The Gen 3 was a 2009 and had a facelift in 2011. The gen 4 prius is long over due and I get the feeling it'll be closer to 2016.

    Gen2 was 2004-2009, or 6 model years. The 2009 Prius was indeed a Gen2, not a Gen3.

Gen3 started with model year 2010. Keeping the same pace, that means it will continue through model year 2015.

Which means, again assuming the same pace, The GenIV would be a 2016 model year vehicle, introduced likely in 2015. Nobody seems to be in agreement, however, of whether 2015 is the model year, or the release year. If the vehicle is indeed released this year as a 2015 model as the rumors seem to be suggesting, pacing will have actually picked up instead of slowing down.

The 2010 Prius (Gen III) was available in April/May 2009. I picked mine up in July 2009.

That is some 17 year olds pipe dream.

No way will the gen4 look like that, or if it will, sales will dive big time.

Of all the predictions seen thus far, this is the absolute most objectionable. If the new G4 were to resemble this depiction, there will not be one on my garage.

But, in truth. I am not fearful that the depiction has any validity.
