it's hard to know why they put different tyres on the same car. i don't know the difference between fuel max and non, but the oem's are always lrr. i doubt you can improve much on mpg's by swapping, but you can definitely improve noise, ride and handling! usually at the expense of mpg's tho.
Thanks again....as you have a very 'regular' routine trip, it would be interesting to see the effect with 42 front, 40 rear. Did that with a rental Prius and got 63.2 @ 56mph over 300+ miles. We're wavering about a PIP until we see what the actual real world EV range is. Michelin Energy Saver tires is also our preferred setup. Your data has been very helpful!
there are 2 years of real world history in this forum, how long are you going to wait? you're missing out on all the fun!
Thanks, High inflation pressure will surely improve range, but is it still regarded "real world"? Same as bisco, I am limited in what I can do while driving without my wife saying " Hey, what's the purpose of this trip? Isn't it to visit grandchildren - comfortably"?
I think everything is real world. Do what works for you and the effort you want to put in. That's what is real world!
When I pumped the tires up to 42/40 I warned my wife that if the ride wasn't 'comfortable' or if the handling was squirrely, we'd be pulling off at the first opportunity to reduce the pressures back to what they were beforehand. Both of us were very pleasantly surprised at both the ride and handling....and left them 'up' there for the 1000 miles (85% freeway) we used it. These were the Goodyear Assurance tires.....but ....I realize that other brands handle changes differently. The reason that your data is very valuable is that the PIP is not offered for sale down here in the southeast US, (the corporate head office actually discourages it quite strongly as they say no techs are trained in the car, verified in person and via phone). So, if someone wades into this pool, it behooves them to maximize it's EV feature to the max. Your data shows you can definitely exceed the rated range and expands that 'max' envelope....otherwise, IMHO, is would be smarter just to get a regular Prius if your regular commute was longer. Thanks again
I agree. But collecting data to my chart, I wanted to avoid things that would seem 'extreme measure' to some.
Oh, I agree and I enjoy your work and the charts. Keep up the good work! Its good to see long term trends all in one place! Thanks!
Off topic. Have you noticed that the reported kWh consumed on the EV driving ratio display can go backwards as well as forward? Energy regenerated is being deducted from the consumption value. This is not immediately obvious since the report is in 'whole numbers' but if, for instance, the consumption is changed from, say, 85 to 86 kWh just before you start a (even short) decent stretch - you can see it goes back to 85! On driving down a mountain, starting with zero or low EV miles in the bank it is even more obvious. I wonder if it will report negative numbers as well? like resetting this display on top of a mountain? I must try it someday.
woo hoo spring is coming! Recent warm-up in the northeast has improved my estimated EV range from an alltime low of 9.6 to 10.5 It still consistently underestimates - last night I went almost 13 miles so even that 10.5 is puzzling and I'd like to know what the PiP "brain" is thinking
agreed, i went 15 yesterday, on 12.6 estimate. there's a lot that goes into it, not least of which, it has no idea what you're doing on your current drive until you've finished.
Keep telling me warm weather is on the way! Est. EV range 9.5 and yesterday 9 inches of snow and today 15-25 mph winds and another 1-2 inches of snow, single digits tonight...
41 Deg F today and estimate was 11.9 miles. After 9.9 miles morning trip, it had about 2.5 miles when I shut down.
My estimate is constantly around 22 km (13.7 miles) this winter (not so cold, some will say warm) and the prediction is quite accurate for my usual driving. Last Saturday we took a trip to mountains area (about 120 miles round), I played with the button to get some extra EV miles for driving in the city (in the mountains) and played again to collect some EV for driving in my city at the end. Next charge on Sunday - a jump to 26.5 km! (not surprising, the "brain" interpreted all these as a very very efficient EV driving). Don't worry, it is crawling down these days.
39 degrees here est. 9.6 tried my best to extend it on trip to gym went 5.5 miles on 4.0 EV on way home had to make one other stop not on direct route home, couldnt drive as conservative as earlier went 6.5 on remaining 5.5Ev est before ICE kicked in.

I run so I can actually convert those kms in my head ! but what temps are you getting over there ?and Retired4999 :when I say "spring is coming" or "woo hoo its warming up"... add 2 months for you
