There was a very popular beer here called Theakstons Theakston Brewery - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia who were taken over by a large brewer like Coors. They promised not to change things but of course they can't help themselves. In the end and to cut a long story short, they killed the golden goose. The old owners bought it back cheap and are again building up the reputation.

As soon as a big brand get hold of something, they usually bugger it up beyond all recognition.

Note: A company I worked for arranged a department tour around the Theakstons brewery. I got very drunk :)

Theakston Old Peculier was a long ago awesome beer. Hope it comes back to its former glory.

I don't drink much beer... when I do, it is usually the frau's brand = Bud Light

I usually drink ale. More of late, it has been one of the Blue Moon brand...

    Apparently it's getting there.

That link above gives some details on what happened. The old owners set up another brewery over the road Black Sheep Brewery - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia and Black Sheep beer became the top one to have. Not sure what's happening now they've bought Theakstons back again.

I just remember getting very very very drunk on the free beer at the tour.

Whatever we drink and start to discuss, sooner or later the HV battery life and grill blocking strategy will take over :D
    Cheers!

I suspect it's the colour you go after drinking too much of it.

Ah. This has all happened since I left. I used to love Old Peculier too. I'm sorry to hear that it's gone.

But I have had a few Black Sheep beers on trips back to Britain, and they were lovely.

I'm off to the pub in an hour. For a "meeting" with a client who is also, fortunately a friend. So there'll be an hour of drinking beer and talking about work, and then several hours of drinking beer and not talking about work. Excellent.

And it's a pub with a three-hour-long half-price happy hour, and a lovely beer garden. And it's a delightful 26C (79F) with a cool breeze today. (We'd be indoors if we were elsewhere in Australia - it's well into the 40s (100s in Fahrenheit) in Adelaide and Melbourne today.) So all in all, I'm looking forward to a very nice afternoon.

I think some people might say ginger. ;)

I don't like beer, although it helps offset the cost of the Marmite production. If I did like beer I'd have plenty to choose from here. Fortunately for me, Americans are rediscovering cider and I actually have a local pub that always has a keg of cider on, often Downeast. :)

I'm pleased to hear that cider is taking off in America. It's started to become popular in Australia over the last three or four years, and there are loads of good local micro-brew ciders here now, which is brilliant.

All you need now is Marmite and some decent pies, and you'll no longer be living in a culinary desert.

(We, of course, still have Vegemite. A poor imitation of the real thing, in my opinion. And my opinion is right. But we have good pies.)

Cider's popular in Canada, too. The fruity blends tend to be too sweet for me, but the pear's about right. Strongbow seems to have an avid following, but there are better choices.

Have you read my postings over the last couple of years, the answer should be obvious...(y)

Funny, I thought, hey, maybe some other folks have discussed this and settled the question, so I just googled Prius and beer and guess what popped up -- so -- is this the BREW:

    Birrificio Settimo Prius

Apparently, it is an Italian preparation...

Yes, Strongbow's never been my first choice either. I like proper cloudy scrumpies from Somerset a lot, but in terms of bottled fizzy stuff, there are some good dry ciders here now.

One of the British makers of very strong dry cider actually paid for the research I did for one of my university dissertations (on the development of the Chinese beer industry) - they sent me to China for the summer vacation to do my research, and sent lots of cider over too - so I've always had a soft spot for cider.

And of course it kept me consistently drunk through my mid to late teens, for which I will always be grateful.

So why'd you move to Oz then?

It's 3c here, rainy, been rainy for weeks. Cold damp and miserable, and that's just me. Being an ex Pom you'll know all about the miserable, wet rain we get up here. I remember an Aussie being aghast when I said I hated rain. I guess the refreshing downpour after weeks of a heatwave is different to the near continuous gloom we get in winter. And your old hunting ground on the wrong side of the Pennines gets it worse. Well, the sun shines on the righteous in Gods own county

At least it's heading to spring (y)

    I'm also amazed to hear that cider is proving popular in America. If only they knew the type of people who drink it here;

(Bet they'll never work out what they're saying lol)

A true PRIUS beer would be nothing more than room temp condensate water. How DARE you utilize precious resources other people could use for sustenance for your own selfish wants!
    /rant

But for normal people, I would suggest St Pauli Girl, Becks, Sierra Nevada, or a cold mug of Schlitz be tasted for approval.

And, I would say the condensate should come from the Prius heating/cooling system. Anyway to install a tap on that?
