I just came to this thread to say that you (Vern) seem like one cool guy. I appreciate your respectful and knowledgable posts. It is nice to be able to discuss the Volt and PiP like adults. You are a guy I'd love to sit down and chat with and have a beer. Thanks for contributing to the forums! I just bought my PiP yesterday so hopefully I will be able to contribute more soon.
Hi Pasaman, I hope the EV revolution will grow and not turn into a fad. It seems that drunk driving will become a thing of the past, with the new technology of cars driving themselves. Just think, you will be able to tell your car to go park it's self. Call your EV when the shows over. Then when it pull, up just say 'Home Scottie', cool. Conrad on the new Pip, your going to love it.
Actually, this would be a return to days past, where you could stagger out of the saloon, get on your horse, and tell it to take you home.
Interesting video Vern. But why post a piece from last March or so? Most of their complaints about the Leaf and Volt were price and charging (mainly on the Leaf). Since this was made, the price of both has been cut significantly. Many people outside of the 'early adopter' crew are starting to buy plugins. And their contention that the only people buying this are hard core environmentalists is definitely no longer the case, at least with Teslas. And comparing the Volt to a Cruze is like comparing a Prius to a Yugo. I would love to see them do another piece on the same subject a year after their first one.
In socal, I got a 2014 PIP essentially for $23K (+T&L)-- $29K - ($2K toyota cash rebate + 2.5K fed tax credit + 1.5K CA rebate) = $23K. Plus 0% financing for 5 years. Didn't look at the Volt since I wanted seating for 5 and more leg room in the back. On my first tank of gas still and averaging 92 MPG (39% EV miles, 61% HV miles).
If you post your EV Ratio screen, we can tell you the efficiency breakdown of both fuels. FYI, 92 MPG is the gas consumption, not fuel economy.
