As a point of interest (regarding question about DRLs), I am in Calgary and recently imported my US-purchased Prius PHEV (Advanced Tech model): - although DRLs come standard on the car, they still do not meet the Canadian regulations because they can be easily turned off by simply flipping to the 'DRL off' setting. The local Toyota dealership wanted to charge $250+ to disable that feature so that it stays 'on' in the DRLoff setting. So I took it to the local Canadian Tire instead (first PHEV vehicle they had ever seen) and they were able to use their tools to change the setting to disable the DRLoff setting so that DRLs are now automatic even when flipped to DRLoff - and did it for only $170 all-in. - I was suprised that the built-in cell phone in the Prius (that notifies me of charge status/completion by email) works even up here in Calgary. This car will be moving to Halifax shortly, so will test it out there too. I don't have an iOS or Android-based phone to be able to test out the Enture features though.
Here in Moncton, NB Plug ins are pre- order only. Ordinary Prius's are never in the showroom because the local fire dept. says you can't display it inside because of fire codes- local fire dept does not want to deal with a Prius indoors during a fire...... No you wonder why sales are so low.....no see...no want. I spotted a used plug in in Maine at a dealership for 23,000. So tempted. Used might be my route to a plug in. Own a Prius 2012 (103,000 km) and a Prius 2005 (210,000 miles)
As already suggested, I suppose the FD requires that the gasoline tank be drained from all ICE vehicles on display. What a ridiculous regulation! Gasoline is a heck of a bigger hazard than the hybrid battery, where the only real possibility of being compromised is in an accident, not likely in a showroom.... Maybe they use the same safety arguments that are used in the states of Oregon and New Jersey to prohibit self-service gasoline stations.
That's the silliest thing I've ever heard (I guess there must've been a ton of Prius fires in showrooms across the country and the United States and probably onboard the cargo ships too). wow, 103,000 on a 2012! I'm only at 78,000 on my 2010 and I do road trips every summer!
