Seized rear calliper on calliper holder

    Ive been truing to replace the rear brake pads on my 2008 Prius. When I removed the calliper/calliper holder assembly I found the calliper was seized on the calliper holder. How do I free it off??

    Can you use a large screwdriver to pry apart the two pieces?

    If not, can you gently whack the caliper with a small sledgehammer (the type with a short handle, looks similar to a hammer).

    I'm wondering why you removed the caliper holder from the hub assembly. I suggest you reinstall the holder. Compress the caliper piston with a C-clamp as needed so the pads will fit around the rear disc. Do not open up the bleed screw.

    I assume the caliper holder is mounted to the rear axle hub with two bolts. Those bolts should be tight.

    I further assume the caliper is mounted to the caliper holder with two bolts. Remove one bolt, and use a large flat-blade screwdriver as a lever to pivot the caliper away from the holder. Then you should be able to remove the pads and replace.

    If you've actually removed all bolts and cannot separate the caliper from the caliper holder, maybe you'll need to buy new parts for both. However the caliper replacement will introduce air into the hydraulic line feeding that wheel and you may need to seek Toyota dealer assistance to purge air out of the brake hydraulic system.

    Did you remove the bolts that hold the caliper to the caliper holder?

    The reason I removed the calliper holder is to replace the rotor because the float between the calliper and the holder was seized. One side of the rotor (outside)was completely rusted because the pad wasn't making contact with the disc
