I thought it would be fun to post wintery pictures featuring Prii.

Here's mine from today. It's still snowing so I'll probably have another one with additionally inches by this time tomorrow.

My guess is 4 - 5 inches so far. Unfortunately, a bad angle to get the whole scope. You can kind of see it stacked up on the side-view mirror.

I could do that for any just about any recent winter. If there has to be stereotypical winter weather involved, I'd have to go with a pic from 2006...So Tony—does it have to involve snow/ice and/or does it have to be this winter? ;)

I thought about that. I had time on my hands (mittens) as I was shoveling. Since I can't remember a thread of this type in previous years, and because I know many of us have a stockpile of photos, I say bring 'em on from any year, covering any winter-themed genre.

I'm focusing on winter because, well, it's the winter time and because in my opinion it's more common to see beautiful pictures of cars in gorgeous lighting on summer days. However, I feel there is beauty in winter images as well.

My sister called from Sun City West, AZ. Knowing we're having a snowstorm today, she asked if it had warmed out of the teens (only 11) and whether the ground was covered yet after our recent thaw (yep, all white). Of course, she had to add that their expected high today will be in the 70s and their ground is also covered - with rocks. On a positive note, she rarely calls in the summer - then it's my turn.

Here's the obligatory pic. At least the Prius and Fit are clean and dry. My wife still has her old Malibu, so she drove that to work.

SilverSnowSmile.jpg This one seems to fit the theme. Silver's all tucked in under a fluffy blanket. ;)

  7. If anyone is interested, here is a cold start video of my car after it sat outside in -10F...it warmed up to 14F.

When I hit the Start button, the mechanics sounded pretty stiff. At this temperature, the Ready light didn't just come on solid... the Ready light flashed a few times and then it eventually went solid. The engine also fired up to 1700 rpm for a few seconds.

I have an Ultragauge, and after I transferred it to the new car, somehow I mis-set the amount of fuel in the tank, so I'll fix that when I fill up.

I can do another one later it's supposed to be even colder.

(Edit: Here it is on YouTube)

    Yuck!
It was -6º here in Chicagoland this morning. The engine was running hard for the first couple miles. Low power output but high RPMs. I have no gauge, just my ears. In his defense, he had been sitting outside, mostly unmoved, for four days so I'm guessing the thermos of fluid had cooled down. He had to go through the entire warming cycle. Didn't shut off the engine for nearly ten miles.

Righto! Can't wait to see what Monday and Tuesday brings. My car has never seen what we are about to get. I will be dressed to walk the mile to work if it can't hack it. Grill blocking ain't gonna help in that temp. Expected to be -20F or somesuch.

My solar powered tree and arch in the backyard, and another solar powered tree on the patio..
Nothing really related to the PIP- but the trees are prettier... :)

:) (aren't most trees kinda solar powered already by design?)

-18F, Prius started like a champ, with a couple rumbles for a few seconds. Was moving it out to the street and then I noticed the idiot light indicating… flat tire(s). This is my third incident now with the Toyo Proxes.' Although this time it is probably a bead breach due to the temps. Not going to worry about it today, as the high will be all the way up to -13. But I really wanted to get to work today - really. Now I guess I'll just nap, sip coffee and watch Star Wars movies or something. Damn.
