Sadly my antenna snapped in half at a soft touch car wash. I didn't realize it screwed off... Oh well, the replacement was relatively cheap.

One of my friends told me that the shark fins always require some color matching paint to match the car.

Get it from the PriuschatShop. It includes color matching and painting.

It's one of the best purchases that I made.

Why is that? Did it improve reception?

The OP should be glad that it did snap off below the base.

The connector screw and the circuit board inside the base housing is very expensive to buy and to replace. The headliner and a lot of panels have to come off and everything going to the radio control head.

You're looking at about $700 at the dealer.
