InfiniApps Slyde CD Slot Mount for Smartphones. I purchased this the other day on Amazon. I think it is great!

 

I use ram mount suction cup mounts and its rock solid. Its on the expensive side of mounts but well worth it to me since I use it on my other cars to get in car videos.

 

I'd be interested in hearing more about this. Is it pretty solid? Does it do any damage to the cd slot?

 

It has a thumb screw that expands a flat piece of plastic into the face of the CD player. Not close to the internal parts. It is quite solid and holds my Galaxy Note 3 quite well. I am pleased with my purchase.

 

Looks really cool! I might have to get it.

a couple questions...

How thick is the magnetic piece? Not sure if there is room to spare between my case and phone.

Does it block any vents or the touchscreen at all?

Would it stay up there even if there was a coiled charging cord connected to it and pulling on it?

 

The piece of metal that goes into the case is only about two mm. Should not bother any case. The magnetized part is on the mount, not next to the phone. There is some blockage of the center vents, I can live with it. No obstruction of the touch screen as it is above that. The coiled charging cord is another matter. It doesn't pull the phone off the mount but it does prevent the phone from staying in the landscape (horizontal) position. While I want the landscape position I unplug the charger. Also in portrait position there is a slight blockage of the touchscreen and the charger cable itself is an obstruction.

I just bought from Amazon the Mountek MT5000 $22.94 Prime. It has rubber coated tabs that spread with thumb screw similar to the Infini mount. Oriented as in the first picture the screen is obstructed only by the thumbscrew. If you rotate 90 degrees to landscape (phone on side), my iPhone blocks a bit more of the display, but my wife's 5.5" screen LG G Pro on it's side blocks more (too much). It is super easy to rotate. It does not angle much to side or up/down, but enough for me.

Solidness: I think the Prius (2013) CD slot 'may' not be as thick or sturdy as other cars, but that is just a guess. I am careful not to tighten the thumbscrew to much, as it still has a bit of play when you touch the top of the phone (the most leverage). In this orientation, the lower 'spade prongs' are set wide and the upper one is smaller and in between the outers. I was concerned that that smaller width being expanded to tighten to the upper slot surface 'might' allow the the holder to flex in (and possibly distort?) the slot more that if it too had a wide area to press against the CD slot. So I found at Ace Hardware a steel bracket, $1.79, .1" thick* x .6" W x 4" L. I (for now) taped it to the upper prong to spread the load of the upper prongs (I plan to glue it to the prong soon). The mount feels 'a bit' more solid, but I feel less concerned about breaking my dash plastic. I am still careful to not over tightening the thumb screw to try for a super solid fit. I looked for metric M6 thumb screws that might be a little smaller to block less screen (and take more effort to overtighten ), but found none at Ace or Home Depot, so I'll stick with the supplied one.

Overall, I am very pleased with the place this puts the phone. It is out of the way and reachable easily. I believe the prong mount sturdiness should be the same for the Infini and Mountek, thought Infini onlhas one picture, so I cannot be sure how it is.

 

I agree that the CD mount is definitely the way to go (I have tried others) in a Prius, even if it is just a bit wobbly at times.

But I think the magnetic mount from the phone can't be beat. Is the Mountek magnetic?

 

The MT5000 I bought is not magnetic. I did see on Amazon that Mountek does have a magnetic version also. The thing I like about these CD mounts (magnetic or clamp style) is that they are out of the way of other controls and the display, while also being far enough away from the center heat/air vents to not obstruct airflow much! (like a vent mount I had fro an XM radio in another car)

Anybody have the ProClip mount/holder combo? I was looking at the A-pillar mount since it looks like it does not block anything (vent, touchscreen, etc).

 

We use the A-pillar mount. Perfect placement, IMHO.

 

any chance you could post some pics? I have a N3 as well and the ProFit left side mount wont allow the N3 to fit between the dash and A pillar. Thx

It's way better than the vent-mount option, in my opinion. Very sturdy and keeps it exactly enough out of the way of everything. It can be slid to the right of where their picture shows it so the phone doesn't block your view of the upper dash display/indicators. I ran a USB-Lighting cable from it, through the dash, to the USB port in the center console. Perfect integration!

 

I did not even consider windshield mounts because on our Prius I (maybe incorrectly?) assumed this would place the phone too far out of reach (besides blocking view to some degree). Is this not the case in our cars?
