You can get a kit from DDM for less with a warranty.

I have the OPT 7 Bolt 35w AC HID kit in my Camry. It is working fine with a self made dual relay wiring harness connected directly to the positive post on the battery.

On the Prius, you have 2 options for power in the engine fuse box:



There are two open terminals near the back of the fuse box that accept 1/4 in push on terminals, shown here with two red wires attached.

Or, you can put a ring terminal under the bolt that is hidden under a cover, seen here with cover open, with small screwdriver pointing to the bolt at the top of the picture. Treat that bolt, and the terminals like they are positive battery posts, they are hot (powered) at all times, unless you disconnect the 12v battery in the hatch.

 

thanks for the info and the pic! I'll give the hook-up to the post a try when the OPT7 kit comes. Did you have any other issues in the Prius install like having to switch polarity to the ballasts? Did you use the relay harness with or without the capacitors? thanks

 

Yes, you have to reverse polarity to the ballasts in the Prius installation. I released the pins in the connector shell with a small screwdriver and removed and reinserted the pins with polarity reversed to preserve the locking function when the connectors are put together.

As long as you get power from a reliable source, like the fuse box, and not the oem headlight circuit, then capacitors are not necessary.

The 35w HID kit I installed (Innovited AC Ballasts) connected with a dual relay harness to the terminal at the back of the fuse box, lights up reliably, and is flicker free. Even when the car is ignition off, 12v auxiliary battery only, not off the 14.4v voltage present when in Ready Mode.
