I've ordered the parts to do both. I'll do the best write up + pics I can do when I get time to install. This winter has been a killer so far, after a few 5 degree nights, the block heater isn't cutting it! I'm doing a Viper 5706v 2-way remote start/security system and OEM heated mirror glass and going to run the wires into the defroster circuit. The plan will be to integrate that into the remote start so that both the rear defrost and the heated mirrors are activated below 34 degrees.... Has anyone else done the OEM heated mirror conversion? I'm a bit anxious on replacing the glass. Thanks, Chris
in for both of the installs. i dont plan on doing remote start but do plan on adding a viper alarm so i can use my viper remote that i have with my rav4 remote start viper 5902. i would love to see the heated mirrors. where are you getting them from?
Saw it posted here.. OUTSIDE MIRRORS for 2012 Toyota Prius C Looks like it's about $500... Ugh! I regret buying my 3 solely because of the lack of heated mirrors
No no - if you take the time to run the wires, it's about $60 per side. New OEM glass with the heater in it. Pop out existing glass, install new, and fish wires from door into cabin, and then tie into defroster circuit... that's my plan anyways....
My C2 already has heated mirrors.. Aren't they supposed to be standard? Or is this just for the "Cold weather" regions like Canada? They are connected to the rear defogger, so just turn on the rear defogger and the mirrors turn on as well..
My C2 has heated mirrors, part of the regular package here in Canada.. Again, I think it's part of the "Cold Weather" region standard, so we get the heated mirrors as well as the electric PTC heaters.. I've never found that the PTC heaters were necessary- the engine warms up very quickly with the exhaust heat recovery, but the heated mirrors are great when you forget to scrape the mirrors off..
So you just need the OEM Glass with the heater in it? You don't need the entire assembly too? I don't know how to wire this stuff so I was thinking of bringing it to a shop to do it for me. What parts do I need?
hate to revive an old thread, but I'm looking to get heated mirrors on my C3 too. Any updated info on this?
I can't comment specifically because I have a C4 with heated mirrors. I can comment sort of peripherally though based on other cars. I'm not looking at the prius right now because my wife is out with it, so bear with me. Get access to the inside of the door opposite where the mirror is attached. I don't know if there's a little removeable panel there, or if you have to pull the entire inside panel off the door. Get to the harness plug where the mirror connects and check out how many wires are on both sides of the connection. In my Mazdas all the wiring was present for heated mirrors all the way until where the door plugged into the mirror. Adding heated mirrors was as simple as buying the glass with the elements, running wire through the articulating housing and sticking it into the harness plug. In my newer (2012) Mazda they didn't include the wiring between the firewall and the doors, so I need to run a little bit more wire. Anyway assuming there are extra wires on the door side of the connector test them with a multimeter and turn the defroster on/off to make sure they get power. If they do then you're home free and just need to put in about a foot of wire in each mirror housing to plug into the new glass. There should be three wires for the power mirrors, one or two for the turn signals (depending on if they share a ground with motors), and two for heaters.
Thanks, I'll do that first over the weekend. It really looks as if they might really leave the harness and plug universal. I was doing leather seats over last weekend and noticed there's an unplug white plug under both seats. I know the yellow one were for airbags, and I know prius c doesn't have motorized seats. So I believe it's for heated seats. Can you confirm that with me with your C4? I did purchase heating pads with my clazzio leather seats, the plugs are not the same, so I'm still going to wire it with the included wire kit that came with the heating pads. just want to know if those plugs were for heated seats. If they're are, there's a high chance the mirror harness would have wires for heated mirrors. I'll let ya know what I find, unless someone else already beat me to the punch.
