It is time for me to party with my beloved 2001 Prius. I’m in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, he (his name is Rupert) has less than 125,000 miles, but I’m pretty sure he needs a new HV battery. Some cosmetic scratches, engine and everything else seems to be in good working order. I just don’t have the time, tools, or resources to take care of him anymore. The idea of sending him to salvage hurts viscerally, but it seems easiest (yes, it’s a car, but he’s the first car I personally owned), what is the likelihood of someone being willing (and able to) take him off my hands?
Post it on craigslist and see what happens. List it for $1500 or so and see if someone is out there willing to go through fixing it. Parting out a car is time consuming and you need the room to store parts. If you sell it to the U-pull yard you will only get $400 or less. TomK
That is tremendously helpful. Thank you. Do you (or anyone) know if CarMax (or a dealer) will take it if I don’t find a buyer? As I said, everything else is in working order, just not the traction battery.
I'd be interested, I've fixed 3 Gen 1's and a couple Gen 2's and sent them on there way to friends and relatives. I live close to the Omaha Nebraska area and have picked my first one up from Minnesota. Decide what you want for it and PM me and see what we can work out! On the other hand I just got finished charge cycling a set of Gen 2 battery modules. I need to get them put together in the Gen 1 case. Could sell you a pack if you're interested in keeping it. Gerry
