Next January (2014) I maybe doing a road trip to road trip from Chicago, IL to Sarasota FL and then back. It will be me and 2 other people in a prius c Two. I believe it is a 20 hour drive. Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
road trip! i hope you're young, my old bones couldn't take that long a trip in the liftback, no less the c. have fun!
Florida is flat, so you may be able to help your mileage with a little attention to eco score. I'll be anxious to hear what kind of mileage you get. Are your passengers big people or little people?
I drive to Fl from Cincinnati. I highly recommend Audiobooks Free Trial from Audible.com Online Digital Audiobook Store. Get a good audible book or two (you can pick them by their running time) and it will really help the time fly. ALSO, the WAZE navigation app, if you have a smartphone - is the best thing going. People register reports of accidents, police, etc. real-time and you will always know what is ahead and have the ability to reroute if necessary. Have a safe trip. Allen
Getting the luggage to fit might be an issue. Otherwise, it sounds fun. This past summer, my dog and I went from Denver to Sacramento and back and had a great trip. Car was super comfortable and performed flawlessly. Reported mileage was 50+ mpg, but actual was a bit less than 50.
As far as getting the luggage to fit - I've got a Yakima cargo carrier that goes on my roof when we hit the road. This gives Lola the dog a lot of room to spread out in the back of the car. I've got the V and don't know if there is a fit for the C.
Oooooo. That's too bad. Stay AWAY from Taco Bell until you get into warmer climes. If you're going to be doing all or most of the driving then I'd double the audiobook recommendation but I'd listen to it with through one and only one earpiece vice piping it through the car's audio system. If they're going to be driving some, I'd put the other earpiece in when they're at the stick. Watch your speed in Indiana. They don't play. Look for white lines across the roads in FLA and when you see them? Look up and wave to LEO! They love aircraft enforcement in the Sunshine State! If you order iced tea south of Kentucky? Don't say sweet tea. That's extra redundant. It will BE sweet unless you tell them not to. Good Luck!
Make sure you fill up your gas tank in Georgia before you get to Florida, gas is more expensive in Florida. Also, make sure you travel on some of the off roads for awhile to break up the monotony of highway driving. You'd be surprised how beautiful are country is off the highways. Plus, you get to enjoy all the hick country signs along the way some of them are pretty funny.
Check out the results of my 5,000 mile trip this past September here: Vernon Birdman on the road | PriusChat Please post your results. You should get better mileage than I did because your trip is relatively flat for most of your trip.
Too bad. I was looking forward to seeing the stats. Perhaps it's for the best. The weather out east appears to be brutal
