(I know someone asked this before but the @#$%^& search feature on this site is broken at the moment so...) The headlights on the 2006 appear to have a row of LEDs in but I don't think they are LEDs. Anyone know what these are?
Actually, what they are is a clear lens that shines the light from the turn signal bulb. If you go and hit the hazards or turn signal, you will see that this whole row is actually one long clear(ish) piece of plastic, and the bulb's light also shines through it. It is NOT a row of LED's, and it is basically just pretty.
I just saw the 06 at the dealership today, and I was wondering about the headlights. I didn't think they were LEDs, but how cool would it be if they were?
On the topic of search... You can use Google to search any site. The "advanced search" of Google permits you to put in a site address to restrict the search. I've made a search link using this feature and put it in my sig. Try it -- it's far better than phpBB search.
Just went to Google options and they allowed me to put up a site search for priuschat on the toolbar. Thanks for the idea...maybe we should get this info out to more users?
for making signal lights using LEDs You often have to Change the Relay aswell, because of the high resistance/low amp use.... affects the "blinking"..... so its abit more work/cost/testing/design than just replace with LEDs for Toyota... Andreas
I agree witsh goodsam: this is a great idea that deserves it's own thread: Let's see what other ideas/improvements others have, and what OS/browsers it works with. I saved your link as a bookmark (right clicK ot my Prius folder, then tested it. Great! So the next time Google is down, we will have a @#$%^& PriusChat option ;-) Please leave a note here if you do start a new thread. Well done! C
Well, I guess in a way there are LED turn signals if you want to count those turn signals on some cars that are in the side mirrors... Some of them use LED's. Anyway, yeah as it has been answered already those are not LED's on the 06's Prius. Just a clear plastic piece that illuminates the LED looking dots when the turn signals flash.
Plenty of trucks/busses use LED signals (and brakes and tails, etc). And there are several models of cars that come with that standard now as wel. There are zero technological reasons not to use them. In fact the ONLY reason not to use them is initial cost - which today is only insignificantly higher.
I took your suggestion! http://priuschat.com/index.php?showtopic=16648&hl= Let's see what else comes of it. Maybe we'll all learn more 'cause we can find things now! B)
No, more to do with the fact it's the DOT and they can't seem to get anything processed timely that might actually benefit the user.
