ICE stalls on vehicle start after 3 days inactivity (P3191)

    I have a 2013 Prius with 15k miles, and this happened to me recently for the first time:

    - Drove 40 miles
    - 24 hours of inactivity
    - Drove a very short distance, maybe for 60 seconds, just enough for the ICE to start
    - 48 hours inactivity
    - Start car, ICE starts, but sputters and sounds like an old, sick lawnmower, and dies after 3-4 seconds. The "check hybrid system" warning is displayed, and I read a P3191 DTC
    - Turn off car, repeat three more times, and by the third time, the warning lights went away, and the ICE runs fine again now.

    I took the car to a Toyota dealer, and they told me that they didn't see any problems. A friend of mine had the exact same problem with a 2012 Prius, after the same scenario (3 days inactivity with a 60 second trip in the middle of the inactive period).

    Has anyone out here experienced this issue? Thanks

    Very common problem. There are many threads on this forum related to vibration after shutting down while ICE is still in warmup mode then allowing the engine to cold soak. No known solution but as far as anyone knows no permanent damage is caused by the shaking.

    The best practice is this: If you have the engine start (while maneuvering around the driveway or something) let it run for a minute before shutting it down.
    I had a BMW that would refuse to start (act flooded) if I'd run it for 10-15 seconds from a cold start then shut it down to park. Once I learned to run it for a minute I owned the car for another 15 years without a repeat incident.

    Alternatively select EV to move it. I had a 95 Ford Mondeo (US Contour) that did the same as your BMW.

    With what you described I would suspect there could be a few things going on but I would start getting it checked at a auto shop and ask them to check both the sensor or injector but cold stalling problems or at least the one`s our car has experienced in the past have always almost been related to fuel problems.
