GC what is the price comparison to a basic Gen3 Prius?
At $54000 no wonder diesel is popular...

It's difficult to compare as many of your models are not sold here.

The PIP does get the deduction of a £5,000 grant from the £33,000 price tag.

The base Prius is £21,895. The base Lexus CT is £21,995. So for £100 extra you get a Lexus! The PIP is a 50% load.

We have 10% import duty for vehicles from outside the EU zone and in the UK we have 20% vat/sales tax, but free healthcare.

    Generally the car pricing structure here is;

c£6,000 cheap and nasty bargain basement super mini
£8,000 to £12,000 gets a small car like a Ford Fiesta
£10,000 to £16,000 gets you something like a Ford Focus
£16,000 to £25,000 gets you a Ford Mondeo (US Ford Fusion)
    £25,000 to £35,000 gets a BMW 3 series
    £35,000 to £45,000 a BMW 5 series.

You get the picture. Our car classes are probably one down on yours You also see that the base Prius is expensive for the size being at the top end of the pricing structure. The PIP is well into BMW 3 series country and expectations at that level.

Regarding the Op. My suspicions were raised when he used the word mom instead of mum. Also, the language used or at least its context was American. Oh and Jags are now popular and bare no relation to the unreliable rust buckets of the 1970's-80's or the rebadged Ford of the 1990's.

^^^ at full price the PIP is well into BMW pricing here in the US too, and the material quality is on the low end of what's acceptable for that price.

I would like to ask OP to post screen shot of the EV driving screen. It has kWh and gallons consumed along with EV and HV mile ratio.

Post it or you never owned a PiP. ;)

    Providing detail. What a concept!

We've seen countless claims over the years fall apart when pressed for real-world data.

Not hearing anything from the OP makes this look like yet another to chalk up.

GC- Do you have Camry and Camry Hybrid?
We could do a calculation to see if hybrid pays off.
The 20% VAT tax is high but not unheard of here for states which charge annual property tax on vehicles, total tax over 10-years can get into the 20% range for VA, AZ, possibly CA and some others. But they nickel and dime us each year after the intial state sales tax, not all up front. We don't have the import duty.

He was reportedly from the UK and thus would use British words. The fact he used American wording indicates he is not a PIP owner from the UK, but more likely that same troll who has posted numerous similar one off posts critising the Prius.

Perhaps I should have asked him what a fanny was? (hears sniggers from Brits and Aussies (y) ). That would have answered the question once and for all.

No Camry. Stopped selling it about 10 years ago. We get the Avensis which is smaller but in line with European sized cars. Never understood why they don't sell the RHD Camry hybrid here.

20% vat is not that high compared to some. I think Ireland has 23%. Oh and we also have annual property tax which on my small house is about £1,500 a year and an annual car tax ranging from £0 (for a Prius etc) to £500+ for Range Rovers. In Norway and Holland it's about double that. There is then house sales tax (stamp duty) which is upto 3% for houses upto £500,000.

I think you get taxed somewhere between Europe and the US in Canada don't you? Petrol is higher than the US but lower than here.

On the EV range, it does occur to me that some of the difference between UK/EU and US figures will be that we switch back to HV at 10mph lower than you, which will presumably extend the EV range.

On the OP, I tend to go by the full version of Heinlein's razor; Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity, but don’t rule out malice. Apart from Mom, I didn't think the rest of the language was American (petrol, honour, etc), but if you want evidence for malice then Rochdale has no 'e' in the middle, and I'm not sure why he referenced the M42 near Birmingham if he lives near Rochdale (which is near the M62).

Anyway, time to stop fannying about with this... (snork...)

I owned a jaguar like the op. I can't understand regretting selling the jag for a Prius. Sounds like a phony story to me. I know my old jaguar is out there somewhere causing trouble. Probably waiting under a tree for another new fuel pump to arrive.

Well I've owned a couple of Jags; an XK-120 and an XK-150. That was years ago and they were very fun cars to drive. Pretty sure they are both now restored and in collectors hand's. They would never have been my daily driver.
