what does entune cost ? do i need a hot spot ? cost ? do i have to pay for extra G's (data plan ?) or is the cost of entune COMPLETELY FREE FOR THREE YEARS ?
Pretty sure that I read in the manual or on the entune web site that entune itself is free for three years. I would assume that any data usage is between you and your provider, i.e. if you go over your data limit you'll pay extra. I bought a Prius v (3) a couple months ago and did register and install the entune app. on my phone, but quite frankly after playing with it in the car a couple of times I haven't found it to be very useful.
They changed their mind a few months ago. Entune completely free now. You should've received an email.
only thing i got in the mail was an upgrade USB plug, which i did. as for being very useful, it isn't. can't make calls while plugged in, also can't receive calls. won't even charge while using w/USB. so probably an internet radio, or a way to connect to the internet w/o using you cell would have been a better idea. XM radio is not an answer.
There are only two ways to get internet radio in a car: either a WiFi connection or cellular data service. The only one that works in a moving car is cellular, so there's not really any choice. I use Entune in my Prius c with my iPhone plugged into the USB port, along with Bluetooth for hands-free phone calls, and everything works fine.
In my 2013 Prius with Premium headunit, you can use Bluetooth for both hands-free calling and BT Streaming (or streaming audio via Entune). I never plug in unless I need juice.
With the Display Audio system in lower trims (I don't know about Premium), if you have an iPhone it will do hands-free calling and streaming audio via Bluetooth, but for an internet connection you need to either have tethering on the phone or use the USB connection.
